Step 1 | Screen

When reusing your screen, follow these steps carefully.

  • Examine the backside of the screen for the OLED panel under the glass and note the narrow clearance around the edge.
  • Identify two key seams:
    • Screen seam: where the screen meets the rest of the phone (pry here to separate the screen).
    • Midframe seam: where midframe meets the body (held down by screws, do not pry at this point).

Step 2

Step 2 image

Position a suction cup on the right-hand side of the screen, directly beneath the volume button.

Step 3

Step 3 image

Thumbnail 2

Careful not to damage the fragile OLED display panel underneath the glass.

  • Insert an opening pick at a downward angle, as shown in the second photo of this step, to avoid damaging the screen.
  • Make sure the pick slides under the OLED panel, not between the glass and the panel.

Step 4

Step 4 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Apply a strong, steady pull to the suction cup to create space between the screen and phone.

  • Insert your opening pick into the gap created.
  • If the pick hits something, stop immediately. You may be pressing against the OLED panel. Adjust the angle of the pick downward and try again.
  • Once the pick is in place, you can safely remove the suction cup.

Step 5

Step 5 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Insert the pick into the gap between the screen and phone body.

  • Slide the pick up and down along the right edge of the phone.
  • This will help loosen the adhesive holding the screen in place.

Step 6

Step 6 image

Identify the thicker adhesive along the top and bottom edges of the screen, which is stronger than the thinner strips on the sides.

  • If reusing the screen, heat the top edge with an iOpener, a heat gun, or a hair dryer to loosen the adhesive before slicing.

Step 7

Step 7 image

Thumbnail 3

Careful handling is required when working near the screen — risk of damage.

  • Slide your opening pick around the upper-right-hand corner of the screen.
  • To preserve display integrity, ensure the pick remains under the OLED display or is only inserted 5 mm to avoid contact with the display underneath the glass.

Step 8

Step 8 image

Thumbnail 3

Avoid aggressive prying near the camera and proximity sensor.

  • Continue to separate the adhesive along the top edge of the display.
  • Pry carefully around the camera and proximity sensor when necessary.

Step 9

Step 9 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Insert an opening pick into the gap between the phone's screen and body.

Carefully work the pick along the left edge, prying the adhesive loose as you go.

Step 10

Step 10 image

Adhesive at the bottom edge is thicker and stronger than on sides.

  • Apply heat to bottom edge using an iOpener, heat gun, or hair dryer.
  • This will loosen adhesive for easier slicing.

Step 11

Step 11 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Do not attempt to remove the screen as it remains attached via a display cable.

  • Using an opening pick, gently pry along the bottom edge of the device to loosen adhesives holding the screen in place.
  • Take extra care if reusing the screen by keeping the pick deep under the OLED display or limiting its insertion depth to 5 mm to avoid contact with the display underneath the glass.

Step 12

Step 12 image

Thumbnail 3

Be cautious when handling the screen.

  • Lift the screen from its top edge by the front-facing camera.
  • Flip the screen 180° so it rests face-down on the phone.

Avoid stressing the display cable if reusing the screen.

Step 13

Step 13 image

Remove the black sticker from the display cable bracket using tweezers.

  • If the sticker is reusable, store it for reassembly.
  • Otherwise, cover the bracket with a piece of electrical tape.

Step 14

Step 14 image

Keep accurate records of removed screws for reassembly.

  • Remove the two 4.3mm T3 screws securing the display cable bracket.
  • Note that a T4 Torx driver may provide better fit in these T3 screws.

Step 15

Step 15 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Remove the display cable bracket.

Careful not to dislodge small surface-mounted components surrounding the socket when disconnecting.

  • Pry up on the cable connector with the pointy end of a spudger to disconnect the screen from the phone.
  • To re-attach, align and press down on one side until it clicks into place, then repeat on the other side.

Do not press down on the middle to avoid pin damage.

Step 16

Step 16 image
  • Remove the screen from the phone.
  • Inspect the new replacement screen against the original for correct fitment, noting any transferable components such as the speaker grille and camera bracket.
  • Transfer these components to the new part if necessary.

Step 17

Step 17 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Avoid touching the screen during initial boot-up to prevent touch calibration errors.

  • Use tweezers or an opening tool to thoroughly clean phone frame adhesive with isopropyl alcohol.
  • Remove all residue from reused screens.

Be cautious when using metal tools near the screen to avoid scratching it.

  • Apply pre-cut adhesive or Tesa tape to reattach the screen to the frame.
  • Allow the screen to complete its calibration sequence during boot-up without interference.

Step 18 | Midframe

Step 18 image

Remove the 14 silver and 2 black T3 Torx screws.

A T4 Torx driver may fit better due to manufacturing tolerances.

  • Keep track of each screw for correct reinstallation.
  • Ensure each screw returns to its original location.

Step 19

Step 19 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Ensure the midframe is accessible.

  • Insert an opening pick into the seam along the bottom of the phone.
  • Slide the pick along the seam to release the plastic clips holding the midframe in place.

Step 20

Step 20 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Careful not to damage the midframe's cable.

  • Slide an opening pick along the left and right edges of the phone to release midframe clips.
  • Once bottom clips are separated, use flat edge of opening pick to release remaining clips.
  • Lift up the bottom edge of the midframe but leave it attached by its cable.

Step 21

Step 21 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2

Use a spudger to gently pry up the proximity sensor cable and release it from the motherboard.

Step 22

Step 22 image

Remove the midframe from the phone.

Step 23

Step 23 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2

Be gentle when handling the proximity sensor cable connector to avoid damaging it.

  • Align the top edge of the midframe with the top of the phone during reassembly.
  • Use a spudger to press the proximity sensor cable connector onto its socket.
  • Alternatively, once aligned, use a finger to gently press the connector into place.

Step 24 | Battery Disconnect

Step 24 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2

Disconnect the battery connector by prying it loose with a spudger.

Step 25 | Headphone Jack

Step 25 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2
  • Insert the pointy end of the spudger into the headphone jack's motherboard connector.
  • Pry gently until the connector is disconnected.

Step 26

Step 26 image
  • Remove the headphone jack.
  • If the headphone jack does not easily come out of its slot, insert the pointy end of a spudger into the jack and gently pry it up.
  • To replace, align the replacement jack's hole with the phone's hole and slide it into place.
