Heat an iOpener and apply it to the right edge of the back cover for 1 minute.

Be cautious when using alternative heat sources, such as a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate - risk of overheating the phone's display and internal battery.

  • Note the locations of strong adhesive patches near the bottom of the phone.
  • Identify the fingerprint sensor cable to avoid damaging it while prying.

Step 2 | Create a gap under the back cover

Apply a suction cup to the heated edge of the back cover as close to the edge as possible.

  • Pull up on the suction cup with strong, steady force to create a gap.
  • Depending on your phone's age, this may be difficult. If having trouble, apply heat and try again.
  • Insert the point of an opening pick into the gap.

Step 3 | Loosen the right edge adhesives

Slide a precision opening pick along the right edge to cut through the adhesive.

If the adhesive becomes hard to slice as it cools, reapply heat to facilitate easier cutting.

  • Continue sliding the pick until you have fully sliced through the edge.
  • Leave a precision opening pick in place to prevent re-sealing of the adhesive.

Step 4 | Heat the bottom edge of the back cover

Be careful when slicing around the corner to avoid cracking the panel.

  • Use an opening pick to cut along the bottom right corner and edge of the phone.
  • If slicing becomes difficult, re-apply heat before continuing.
  • Leave a pick in place at the edge to prevent adhesive re-sealing.

Continue heating and slicing the remaining edges of the phone.

  • Careful when slicing along the left edge — risk of damaging the fingerprint sensor.

  • If the pick gets stuck, retract it slightly and try again.

Ensure to cut through thick adhesive portions near the bottom and right edge.

Step 7 | Slice through the leftover adhesive

Swing the right edge of the back cover upwards and rest the flipped panel along the left side of the phone.

  • Maintain slack on the fingerprint sensor cable to prevent pinching.
  • During reassembly, power on your phone and test all functions before sealing it up.
  • Power down your phone completely before continuing work.
  • Follow the guide to install custom-cut adhesives for the back cover during reassembly.
  • If replacing the fingerprint sensor, use the software tool to make the phone recognize the new sensor.
