Tape the cracked display glass to prevent further breakage and bodily harm.

Apply a smooth surface by taping over the glass, allowing the suction cup to bond properly.

  • Position the suction cup as close to the volume button edge of the phone as possible.
  • Avoid placing the suction cup on the curved edge where it won't make a good seal.

Step 2

Step 2 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Risk of damaging the OLED panel if the pick is inserted deeper than 1.5 mm.

  • Pull up on the suction cup with firm, constant pressure and insert an opening pick between the front panel and rear case.
  • Use a significant amount of force and patience if necessary.
  • If trouble persists:
    • Rock the suction cup and screen to weaken the adhesive.
    • Apply heat with an iOpener, heat gun, or hair dryer.

The display panel is fragile. Be cautious when inserting tools to avoid damaging the OLED panel under the glass.

Step 3

Step 3 image

Thumbnail 2

When working on areas near the OLED panel and front-facing camera, exercise extreme caution to avoid damaging the phone.

  • Insert a pick no deeper than 9 mm into the bottom edge to prevent damage to the display.
  • Avoid touching the folded portion of the OLED panel with the pick.
  • Maintain shallow cuts in the upper left corner, as deep prying can damage the front-facing camera.
  • Do not insert an opening tool deeper than 1.5 mm into the sides or 9 mm into the top and bottom edges to avoid permanent display damage.

Step 4

Step 4 image

Thumbnail 2

When cutting, use the flat edge of the opening pick, not a corner.

  • Slide the opening pick up the right phone side to separate the display adhesive.
  • Be cautious with the side bezels as they are only 1.5 mm deep.

Step 5

Be cautious when handling the earpiece speaker mesh — it can be damaged easily.

  • Insert the opening pick at the upper-right corner of the phone and slide it along the top edge.
  • Avoid touching or damaging the earpiece speaker mesh.

Step 6

Thumbnail 3

Slide the pick around the bottom-left corner and along the bottom of the phone, keeping it at a slight angle away from the screen to prevent damage to the OLED corners.

Avoid inserting the opening pick more than 9 mm to prevent damaging the OLED panel.

Step 8

Step 8 image

Reinsert the pick at the top edge and gently pry up the display.

  • If the display doesn't lift readily, continue prying to separate any remaining adhesive.
  • Be aware that adhesive near the upper speaker is thicker than elsewhere.
  • Do not fully separate the display yet, as a fragile ribbon cable still connects it to the motherboard.

Step 9

Step 9 image

Position the display face down on top of the rear case as shown.

  • Remove the two 4.0 mm T5 Torx screws securing the display cable bracket.
  • Keep track of each screw and ensure it's replaced in its original location.

Step 10

Step 10 image

Disconnect and remove the display cable bracket.

Step 11

Step 11 image

Use a spudger to lift the display cable connector out of its socket on the motherboard.

Avoid touching the motherboard with the spudger tip, as surrounding components are fragile.

  • To reattach press connectors, align and press down on one side until it clicks into place, then repeat on the other side.
  • Do not press down in the middle to avoid pin bending and permanent damage.

If your screen doesn't respond after repair, re-seat this connector, ensuring it's fully clicked in and free of dust or obstructions.

  • Pause here during reassembly to replace adhesive around the display edges.

Step 12 | Midframe

Step 12 image

Heat the iOpener and apply it to the proximity sensor on the top edge of the midframe for 2 minutes.

  • The iOpener will loosen the adhesive.

Step 13

Step 13 image

Thumbnail 2

Position the spudger at the edge of the proximity sensor cable, nearest the front-facing camera.

  • Lift the cable gently with the spudger, aiming for a perpendicular angle to the midframe.

Step 14

Step 14 image

Peel back the small piece of tape covering the screw below the earpiece speaker.

It is easy to mix up screws, so be careful when removing them.

  • Remove eleven 3.7 mm Phillips screws.
  • Remove one 4 mm T5 Torx screw.

Keep track of each screw and ensure it is returned to its original location.

Step 15

Step 15 image

  • Insert a spudger into the notch near the hold button.
  • Pry the midframe up to create a gap with the phone case.
  • The midframe cannot be completely removed yet.

Step 16

Locate the bottom edge of the midframe and lift it upwards.

  • Lift until the midframe reaches a 45° angle with the phone.
  • Continue lifting straight up, guiding the proximity sensor through its slot in the process.

Step 17 | Battery Connector

Step 17 image

Disconnect the charging assembly connector with the flat end of a spudger.

Step 19

Step 19 image

Apply isopropyl alcohol to the battery corners using a plastic dropper or syringe, allowing 1 minute for adhesives to weaken.

Alternatively, use a heated iOpener on the back of the phone over the battery for at least 2 minutes, reapplying as needed until adhesive is sufficiently weakened.

  • Reheat and reapply iOpener if adhesives do not weaken quickly enough.

Step 20

Step 20 image

Thumbnail 2

Hold the charging assembly cable out of the way.

  • Insert an opening pick along the bottom edge of the battery.
  • Apply steady pressure to slowly lever the battery up and out of the phone, taking care not to deform it.

Never use excessive force or metal tools to pry the battery — risk of fire or explosion.

  • Pry only from the center of the battery to avoid damaging the ribbon cables.
  • If needed, apply more alcohol under the battery and try again.

Step 21

Step 21 image

Never reuse a removed battery — potential safety hazard.

  • Remove the old battery.
  • Replace it with a new one.
  • To install the new battery:
    • Use a spudger to scrape away any remaining adhesive.
    • Clean the glued areas with isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth.
  • Secure the new battery using pre-cut adhesive or double-sided tape.
  • Apply adhesive into the phone, not directly onto the battery — avoid touching cables.

  • Press the battery firmly into place for 20-30 seconds.
