Taping cracked display glass prevents further breakage and bodily harm.
Suction cups will not seal properly on curved glass portions.
Apply firm, constant pressure with a suction cup.
This process requires significant force and patience; if needed, rock the suction cup and screen or apply heat with an iOpener, heat gun, or hair dryer.
Handle the display panel with care: when reusing it, only insert your tool as far as necessary to separate the adhesive, avoiding damage to the OLED panel under the glass.
Avoid damaging phone components by exercising extra caution in these areas:
Use the flat edge of the opening pick, not a corner, to minimize insertion depth.
Careful handling is required for the mesh covering the earpiece speaker.
Insert the pick into the upper-left corner of the phone and slide it along the left edge.
Insert the pick into the bottom-left corner and slide along the bottom, keeping it at a slight angle away from the screen.
Avoid inserting the pick more than 9mm to prevent damage to the OLED panel.
Reinsert pick at top edge and gently pry up display.
If display does not lift readily, apply extra prying force to separate last of adhesive.
Be cautious around upper speaker area as adhesive is thicker here.
Place the display face down on top of the rear case as indicated.
Be cautious not to damage the display ribbon cable.
Remove the display cable bracket.
Avoid touching the motherboard with the spudger tip to prevent damage.
Replace the adhesive around the display edges during reassembly to ensure proper sealing.
Apply a heated iOpener to the proximity sensor on the top edge of the midframe for 2 minutes to loosen its adhesive.
Slide the spudger under the proximity sensor cable, starting at the side nearest the front-facing camera.
Peel back the small piece of tape covering the screw below the earpiece speaker.
Be cautious to remove all surrounding screws covered in tape as well.
Keep track of each screw and ensure it returns to its original location.
Insert an opening tool into the notch near the hold button.
Hold the midframe at the bottom edge.
Careful not to damage the proximity sensor.
Disconnect the battery connector with the flat end of a spudger.
Disconnect the charging assembly connector with the flat end of a spudger.
Use the pointed end of a spudger to carefully pry the white antenna cable connector upward.
Ensure the connector comes off cleanly, taking care not to damage it or the charging assembly board.
Remove the white antenna cable from the metal clips on the board and channel on the loudspeaker using tweezers.
Insert the spudger tip into the black antenna cable connector and gently pry it straight up to release.
Use tweezers to carefully lift the black antenna cable from its channel.
Use the tip of a spudger to gently push the speaker cable connector horizontally out of its socket.
Locate the loudspeaker assembly and gently pry it up using an opening tool.
Slide the loudspeaker assembly 1/4 inch to the right.
Be careful not to pinch any cables.
Remove one 2.4 mm Phillips screw.
Use a opening tool to carefully lift the vibration motor.
Do not attempt to remove the motor yet, as it remains connected to the charging assembly.
Insert the point of a spudger under the top edge of the charging assembly.
Do not detach the charging assembly at this time — it remains connected to the vibration motor.
Ensure the vibration motor is not stuck to the phone.
To remove the vibration motor, you must desolder its wires from the charging assembly board.
