Apply clear tape over cracked display glass to prevent injury and further damage.

  • Cover the entire glass surface for a smooth, even bond with the suction cup.
  • Attach the suction cup near the SIM slot edge, carefully avoiding the curved portion of the glass.

A suction cup will not seal properly on the phone's curved display edge.

Step 2

Apply firm, constant pressure to the suction cup, using a significant amount of force.

  • Insert an opening pick between the front panel and rear case.

If stuck, try rocking the suction cup and screen or applying heat with:

  • iOpener
  • heat gun
  • hair dryer

Step 3

Avoid damaging the phone's display and internal components.

  • Do not insert the pick more than 0.25 inches (6 mm) into the bottom edge of the phone, as it can damage the OLED panel.
  • Avoid cutting along the left edge to prevent damaging delicate display cables.
  • In the upper left corner, make only very shallow cuts to avoid damaging the front-facing camera.

Step 4

Lift the display from the right side of the phone, opening it like a book.

Do not try to fully separate the display yet.

  • If the display does not lift easily, use extra prying force to separate any remaining adhesive.
  • Lay the display flat on a table next to the phone with cables still attached.
  • Keep the display close to the phone to avoid straining the display and digitizer cables.

Step 8

Use a precision screwdriver or similar tool to pry up and unclip the lower edge of the digitizer cable connector cover.

Be careful not to damage the cable underneath, nor lose the cover itself.

  • Continue prying until the connector cover comes loose.
  • Remove the connector cover and keep it safe for later reassembly.

Step 9

Use a spudger to lift the digitizer cable connector up from its socket on the motherboard.

  • Re-attach by aligning the connector carefully, then pressing down on one side until it clicks into place. Repeat on the other side.
  • Do not press in the middle — risk of pin bending and permanent damage.

If your screen doesn't respond to touch after repair, re-seat this connector ensuring a full click and clearing any dust from the socket.

Step 10

  • Display connector cover removal:
    • Insert a point of a spudger into the small hole on the edge of the cover.
    • Pry the cover out using the spudger.
    • Remove the connector carefully, as it may be fragile and prone to damage.

Step 12

Use the flat edge of a spudger to lift the display cable connector.

  • Disconnect the display from its socket.
  • Remove the display.

If replacing adhesive, pause here and proceed with that step before continuing.

Step 13 | Midframe

Step 13 image

Remove all 11 3.8 mm Phillips screws holding the midframe in place.

  • Carefully collect each removed screw to ensure accurate reassembly later.
  • Pay attention to the original position of each screw for correct reinstallation.

Step 14

Use a spudger to insert it into the notch in the midframe, near the volume buttons.

  • Pry the midframe upwards, carefully moving it away from the rest of the phone.
  • The midframe should now be removable.
