Insert a SIM card eject tool or a paper clip into the small hole in the SIM card tray, located on the left edge of the phone, opposite the power and volume buttons.

Press firmly to eject the tray.

Step 2

Step 2 image

Remove the SIM card tray from the phone.

  • The SIM card will fall out of the tray easily.
  • When reinserting, ensure it is in the correct orientation relative to the SIM card tray.

Step 3 | Opening Procedure

Avoid bodily harm and further damage by taping over cracked display glass before proceeding.

  • Apply tape to create a smooth surface for the suction cup, ensuring it adheres properly.
  • Position the suction cup as close to the SIM slot edge as possible, avoiding the curved area.

The suction cup will not seal well on the curved portion of the glass.

Step 4

Applying force may damage the device — be patient and cautious.

  • Pull up on the suction cup with firm, constant pressure.
  • Insert an opening pick between the front panel and rear case.

If necessary, apply heat or rock the device to weaken the adhesive:

  • Use an iOpener, heat gun, or hair dryer for gentle heat application.
  • Rock the suction cup and screen together.

Step 5

Step 5 image

Insert the pick no more than 0.25 inches (6 mm) into the bottom edge to avoid damaging the OLED panel.

  • Do not cut along the left edge, as it contains delicate display cables that can be damaged.
  • Maintain shallow cuts in the upper left corner, avoiding the front-facing camera.

Step 6

Step 6 image

Hold the opening pick at an angle and gently slide it down the right side of the phone.

  • This will help to loosen and separate the display adhesive.

Use the flat edge of the opening pick, not the corner, to avoid cutting too deeply.

  • Slide the opening pick around the lower-right corner of the phone.
  • Continue along the bottom edge of the device.

Slide the pick along the top-right corner and edge of the phone.

  • Begin by reinserting the pick at the top-right corner.
  • Guide it smoothly around the corner, then continue along the top edge.

Step 9

Lift the display from the right side, opening like a book.

  • If stuck, apply extra prying force to separate remaining adhesive.
  • Do not fully separate the display yet; fragile ribbon cables still connect it.
  • Lay the display flat on the table next to the phone, keeping it close to avoid cable strain.

Step 10

Step 10 image

Use a precision screwdriver and pry at the lower edge of the digitizer cable connector cover.

Be cautious not to damage the cable underneath or lose the cover itself.

  • Remove the clip securing the cover along the bottom edge.
  • Pry gently until the cover comes off.
  • Set aside for reinstallation later.

Step 11

Step 11 image

Use a spudger to lift the digitizer cable connector out of its motherboard socket.

  • To reattach, align the connector carefully and press down on one side until it clicks; repeat on the other side.
  • Do not press in the middle — risk of pin bending or permanent damage if misaligned.

Re-seat the connector if your screen doesn't respond to touch, ensuring a full click and no dust obstruction in the socket.

Step 12

Step 12 image

Use tweezers to carefully remove any tape from the display connector cover.

Step 13

Step 13 image

Insert the point of a spudger into the small hole on the edge of the display connector cover.

  • Pry the cover out of its recess using the spudger.
  • Remove the connector cover.

Retain this component for reassembly purposes.

Use the flat edge of a spudger to lift the display cable connector out of its socket.

  • Remove the display from the device.
  • (Optional) If replacing the adhesive, pause here for reassembly.

Step 15 | Midframe

Remove all eleven 3.8 mm Phillips screws from the midframe.

Keep track of each screw and ensure they are replaced exactly where they were found.

Fragile components: handle with care.

  • Clear the board of cables and connectors.
  • Lift the motherboard's bottom edge using a spudger's flat edge.
  • (Stop if bending) Ensure no items obstructing lift.
  • The board should slide out freely without resistance.

Handle with care to avoid damage.

  • Lift the motherboard toward the phone's bottom, near the SIM card slot.
  • Remove the motherboard once cleared of obstructions.

Prevent accidental ejection: keep phone flat during removal.

Phone's front-facing camera may fall out; handle with care.

Reassembly notes:

  • Clear cables and connectors from the motherboard.
  • Align all connectors with their sockets before reattaching the board.

Step 25 | Back Glass

Be cautious: incorrect removal may cause damage.

  • Apply plenty of heat to the right side of the back glass.
  • Use a small suction cup or a jimmy tool to pull the glass up and insert an opening pick underneath.

The iFixit kit's included suction cup may be too large, causing damage if used.

  • Continue applying heat and slowly move the opening picks around the top of the phone to facilitate removal.

Step 26 | NFC Antenna
