Step 2

Step 2 image

Remove the SIM card tray from the phone.

The SIM card will fall out of the tray easily.

  • When reinserting, ensure the SIM card is in the proper orientation relative to the tray.

Step 3 | Opening Procedure

Step 3 image

Tape over cracked display glass to prevent bodily harm and further breakage, creating a smooth surface for the next step.

  • Apply a suction cup as close as possible to the SIM slot edge, avoiding the curved section of the glass.
  • The curved portion will not form a good seal with the suction cup.

Step 4

Apply firm, constant pressure to the suction cup.

  • Insert an opening pick between the front panel and rear case.

A significant amount of force may be required; rock the suction cup and screen or apply heat if necessary.

Step 5

Avoiding damage to the phone's display and cameras is crucial during disassembly.

  • Insert the pick no more than 0.25 inches (6 mm) into the bottom edge of the phone to prevent OLED panel damage.
  • Avoid cutting along the left edge, as it may harm delicate display cables.
  • In the upper left corner, make very shallow cuts to avoid damaging the front-facing camera.

Step 6

Step 6 image

Start by gently lifting the display from the right side of the phone, opening it like a book.

If the display doesn't readily lift, some extra prying may be needed to separate the last of the adhesive.

  • Do not fully separate the display yet, as fragile ribbon cables still connect it to the motherboard.
  • Lay the display flat on a table next to the rest of the phone, keeping it close to minimize strain on the display and digitizer cables.

Step 10

Step 10 image

Locate the lower edge of the digitizer cable connector cover and use an opening tool to pry up and release the clip.

Pry carefully to avoid damaging the cable underneath or losing the cover itself.

  • Remove the connector cover, taking care to set it aside for reinstallation later.

Step 11

Step 11 image

Avoid bending the pins by ensuring proper alignment before pressing the digitizer cable connector back into its socket.

  • Lift the digitizer cable connector out of its socket on the motherboard using a spudger's pointed tip.
  • To reattach, align and press one side down gently until it clicks, then repeat for the other side. Avoid pressing the middle area.
  • If your screen still doesn't respond after repair, inspect the connector for proper seating, dust, or obstructions in the socket.

Step 12

Step 12 image

Remove any tape covering the display connector using a pair of tweezers.

Insert the point of a spudger into the small hole on the edge of the display connector cover.

  • Pry the cover out of its recess using the spudger.
  • Remove the connector cover.
  • Retain this component for later reassembly.

Use the flat edge of a spudger to carefully lift the display cable connector out of its socket.

  • Remove the display from the device.
  • If reassembling, consider replacing adhesive around the edges of the display before proceeding.

Step 15 | Midframe

Step 15 image

Remove the 11 x 3.8 mm Phillips screws holding the midframe in place.

Clear all cables and connectors from the board.

  • Lift the motherboard bottom using a spudger's flat edge, being careful not to bend it.
  • If it starts to bend, stop and check for any obstructions.

The narrow part of the motherboard is fragile; handle with care.

  • Slide the board toward the bottom while lifting it out near the SIM card slot.
  • Remove the motherboard.

Keep the phone flat after removing the motherboard to avoid damaging the front-facing camera.

Reinstall by moving cables, then aligning connectors with their sockets.

Step 25 | Back Glass

Applying excessive force or improper heat application may cause damage.

  • Apply plenty of heat to the right side of the back glass, targeting the adhesive bonds.
  • Insert a small suction cup and gently pull the glass up to clear an area for an opening pick.

Alternative: If you don't have a suction cup, consider using a jimmy. Be aware that this method may damage the enamel coating.

  • Continue applying heat and slowly move the opening picks around the top edge of the phone.

Step 26 | Earpiece Speaker
