Apply firm, constant pressure with the suction cup to avoid damage.

  • Pull up on the suction cup until it firmly attaches.
  • Insert an opening pick between the front panel and rear case while maintaining suction cup pressure.

If necessary, use one of the following methods to weaken adhesive:

  • Rock the suction cup and screen to loosen the adhesive.
  • Apply heat with an iOpener, heat gun, or hair dryer.

Careful not to damage the phone's display or internal components.

  • Insert pick no more than 0.25 inches (6 mm) into bottom edge of phone.
  • Avoid picking at folded portion of OLED panel, as it may damage display.
  • Do not cut along left edge, as delicate display cables may be damaged.
  • Make shallow cuts in upper left corner only; avoid prying too deeply to prevent damaging front-facing camera.

Lift the display from the right side of the phone, opening it like a book.

If the display doesn't lift easily, apply extra prying force to separate the remaining adhesive.

  • Do not fully separate the display yet, as fragile ribbon cables still connect it to the motherboard.
  • Lay the display flat on a table next to the phone, keeping it close to avoid straining the display and digitizer cables.

Step 10

Avoid damaging the cable or losing the cover when prying up the connector cover.

  • Use an opening tool to pry up on the lower edge of the digitizer cable connector cover, near the clip.
  • Pry carefully along the bottom edge to unclip the cover.

Remove the connector cover and store it safely for reassembly.

Use a spudger point to lift the digitizer cable connector off the motherboard.

  • To reattach, align the connector and press down on one side until it clicks. Repeat on the other side.
  • Do not press in the middle; misaligned connectors can cause permanent damage to pins.

If your screen doesn't respond after repair, reseat this connector and ensure a full click into place. Check for dust or obstructions in the socket as well.

Step 12

Clear the board of all cables and connectors.

  • Lift the bottom of the motherboard using a spudger's flat edge.
  • The narrow part is fragile, avoid bending it. If you encounter resistance, re-check for obstructions.

  • Slide the board toward the bottom while lifting, starting from near the SIM card slot.

Remove the motherboard.

Keep the phone flat with the battery facing up to avoid damaging the front-facing camera when removing or reassembling the motherboard.

  • Reinstall the motherboard, ensuring cables and connectors are aligned properly.
  • Make sure all connectors fit snugly into their sockets.

Step 25 | Back Glass

Risk of damage to enamel if attempting to insert a jimmy without proper tools.

  • Apply plenty of heat to the right side of the back glass.
  • Use a small suction cup or an opening pick to create a gap, being careful not to apply too much pressure on the back glass.
  • If necessary, use multiple opening picks to slowly move around the top of the phone while maintaining heat.
