Google Pixel 10a Screen Replacement

This guide was created by iFixit staff without Google's endorsement. Learn more about our guides. To replace a cracked, broken, or unresponsive screen on your Google Pixel 10a, follow these steps. Be sure to obtain replacement screen adhesive if it isn't pre-installed with the new screen.

Note: This repair may compromise your phone's water resistance, and effective sealing depends on proper adhesive application and clean mating surfaces.

Step 1 | Prepare your Pixel for disassembly

Step 1 image

Thumbnail 2

Let the Pixel's battery drain below 25% before proceeding — a charged lithium-ion battery can ignite during damage.

  • Unplug all cables and power down the device completely.
  • If the rear cover is bulging, suspect a swollen battery — exercise caution.

Step 2 | Cover the cracked screen

Step 2 image

Injury or damage can occur if glass shards are not handled properly.

  • Apply overlapping strips of packing tape directly to the cracked screen, covering it completely.
  • Ensure the tape only adheres to the glass and does not stick to the surrounding frame.

Wear safety glasses to protect your eyes from potential debris during the repair process.

Step 3 | Heat the right edge

Step 3 image

Thumbnail 2

Screen adhesive is extremely strong, requiring high temperatures to soften.

  • Apply heat to the right edge of the screen using a hair dryer, heat gun, or heating pad until it feels hot to touch.
  • If separation is difficult, reheat the screen and try again.

For optimal results with a hair dryer, refer to our guide on adhesive removal best practices. When using a heat gun, see our safety guidelines.

Using a heating pad: Set to 80° C (176° F), place screen-side down for 10 minutes.

Step 4 | Prop up the right edge

Step 4 image

Position a small block, such as an eraser, beneath the right edge of the device.

  • This will provide clearance for the opening tool.
  • If using a thin metal pick, proceed to step [insert step number].

Step 5 | Create a gap with the opening tool

Step 5 image

Thumbnail 3

The adhesive is extremely strong — repeated heating and pulling may be required.

  • Apply a suction handle to the center of the screen's right edge.
  • Pull up on the suction handle with strong force to create a gap.
  • If stuck, reheat the edge and try again. Repeat as needed.
  • Insert the opening tool (curved downwards) into the gap at the edge.

Step 6

Step 6 image

Thumbnail 3

Slide the opening tool along the edge to create space for an opening pick.

If you encounter issues, reheat the edge and retry.

  • Insert the tip of an opening pick into the gap.
  • Remove the block from under the phone and place it on a flat surface.

Step 7 | Create a gap with a metal pick

Step 7 image

Thumbnail 2

Be careful not to damage the screen.

  • Apply a suction handle to the center of the right edge.
  • Pull up with strong, steady force to create a gap.

If trouble occurs, reheat and pull again; repeated cycles will weaken adhesive.

  • Insert metal pick tip into the gap.

Step 8

Step 8 image

Insert the plastic opening pick into the gap.

  • Slide the metal pick along the edge to make room for the plastic opening pick.
  • If you're having trouble, reheat the edge and try again.

Step 9 | Heat the screen again

Step 9 image

Apply gentle heat to the right edge of the screen using a hair dryer or heat gun, aiming for a temperature that feels just shy of unbearable.

Step 10 | Separate the screen adhesive

Step 10 image

  • Guide the opening pick downward to the bottom-right corner.
  • Hold the pick in place at the corner to prevent re-adhesion.

Step 11

Step 11 image

Thumbnail 3

Do not insert the opening pick deeper than 2 mm near the front-facing camera to avoid damaging it.

  • Apply heat around the entire screen perimeter and use your opening picks to gently slice through the adhesive.
  • Leave a pick in each corner to prevent the adhesive from resealing, ensuring you can easily remove the display later.

Step 12

Step 12 image

Swing the screen over the left edge of your phone like opening a book.

Be cautious if you encounter resistance during removal as it may indicate leftover adhesive.

  • Lay the screen down flat on its side.
  • If needed, use an opening pick to carefully separate any remaining adhesive.

Step 13 | Disconnect the screen

Step 13 image

Insert the Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver and turn counterclockwise to loosen the 1.9mm-long screw securing the screen connector cover.

  • Be careful not to damage the surrounding components.
  • The screw may be tight, apply gentle pressure while turning the driver.

Step 14

  • Lift the cover.
  • Remove the cover completely.

Locate the screen connector on the top-right.

Gently pry it away from the rest of the assembly using a spudger.

Step 16 | Remove the screen

Step 16 image

Disconnect and remove the screen assembly.

Step 17 | Disassembly complete

Step 17 image

Now that you have completed disassembling your phone, proceed with reassembly.

  • Rearrange components in the reverse order of their removal.

Step 18 | Clean the frame

Step 18 image

Locate the black plastic perimeter attached to the screen or the frame.

  • If it is on the screen, proceed with removal; otherwise, locate where it is still attached to the frame.
  • Use an opening pick to gently pry up and remove the black plastic perimeter from its attachment point.

Step 19

Step 19 image

Remove screen adhesive from the frame perimeter using a spudger and tweezers.

  • Scrape off as much of the existing adhesive as possible.
  • Use high-concentration (>90%) isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth (or coffee filter) to clean the frame thoroughly.

Step 20 | Connect the screen

Step 20 image

Position the screen adjacent to the phone, ensuring the screen connector has ample clearance to reach its corresponding socket.

Step 21

Step 21 image

Position the screen press connector above its socket.

  • Gently push the connector down with your finger on one short side.
  • Continue by pressing the connector down on the other short side until it clicks into place.

Step 22 | Install the screen connector cover

Align the screen connector cover with its mating surface and gently push it up.

Step 23

Step 23 image

Install the screen connector cover screw with a Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver.

Ensure the correct screw is selected for this application.

Step 24 | Test your repair

Step 24 image

Before finalizing the repair, verify its success by testing the screen.

  • Flip the screen onto the frame.
  • Remove any plastic liners covering the screen.
  • Power on the phone while ensuring no parts touch the screen during boot-up.
  • Use Google's Pixel Update and Software Repair tool to calibrate the fingerprint sensor.
  • Run a diagnostics test with the built-in Pixel Diagnostic tool to verify screen functionality.

  • Fully power off your phone before resuming reassembly.

Step 25 | Remove the remaining liners

Step 25 image

  • Remove any remaining liners from the screen using your fingers and tweezers.
  • Verify that none of the liners cover the front-facing camera area.

Step 26 | Install the screen

Step 26 image

Thumbnail 2

Flip the screen over carefully and place it onto the phone.

Step 27

Step 27 image

Press firmly around the screen perimeter to secure it.

  • Lay your phone screen-down on a flat surface and place heavy objects on top for enhanced adhesion.
