Google Pixel 10a Rear Cover Replacement

  • Replace the rear cover adhesives for this fix.

Note that any repair may compromise water resistance. Proper adhesive application and clean mating surfaces are crucial to retaining water protection.

Step 1 | Prepare your Pixel for disassembly

Allow the battery to drain below 25% to prevent a potential fire hazard.

  • Disconnect all cables from the device and power it down completely.
  • If the rear cover is bulging, suspect a swollen battery and take necessary precautions.

Step 2 | Heat the rear cover

Heating the cover may cause burns or injuries.

  • Apply heat to the rear cover using a hair dryer until it's hot to the touch.

As an alternative, follow these steps if using an iOpener to heat the edge.

Step 3 | Create an opening gap

Position the suction handle near the center of the right side, as close to the edge as feasible.

Apply suction handle firmly to create a gap.

  • If stuck, reapply heat to the edge and retry.
  • Pry with the opening pick at the formed gap.

Separate the rear cover by carefully prying it away from the frame with a pick.

  • Use this reference picture to guide you.
  • When working on the left edge adhesive, do not insert your pick more than 3 mm to avoid damaging the wireless charging coil and its graphite film.

Slide the opening pick around the entire perimeter of the device.

  • Apply gentle pressure to separate the adhesive.
  • If necessary, reapply heat using a heat source and try again.

Insert an opening pick deeply near the top-left corner and gently pry the adhesive away from the camera bezel.

  • Pry carefully to avoid damaging the camera bezel.

Slowly peel up the rear cover to remove it.

Step 9 | Disassembly complete

Reassembly process begins now.

  • Reverse the disassembly steps in reverse order.

Step 10 | Clean the frame

Take your time cleaning the frame as a clean surface helps replacement adhesive adhere evenly.

  • Adhesive must be removed from the frame perimeter using fingers, a spudger, or tweezers.
  • If you scrape up large piece, pull slowly and straight in opposite direction of adhesive.
  • Use high concentration (>90%) isopropyl alcohol and lint-free cloth (or coffee filter) to remove any remaining adhesive residue carefully.

Step 11 | Replace the camera bezel adhesive

Clean and unwrinkled adhesive blocks may be reusable.

  • Inspect the adhesive blocks for cleanliness and wrinkles.
  • Scrape up and remove the seven adhesive blocks surrounding the rear cameras using a spudger.

Remove the clear liner from the camera bezel adhesive.

  • Align the adhesive using the rear cameras as a reference.
  • Lay the adhesive in place carefully.

  • Press the camera bezel adhesive firmly with your fingers onto the frame.
  • Peel off and remove the top blue liner from the adhesive.
  • A thin liner will remain, covering the adhesive.

Step 14 | Remove the rear cover liners

Remove and discard the liner material from the interior of the rear cover.

  • Take care to also remove the liners from both camera openings.

Step 15 | Install the rear cover adhesive

Place the rear cover adhesive over the phone, ensuring proper alignment with the camera cutout. This will provide a visual representation of its final position.

Peel back top half of clear liner.

Do not fully remove the liner at this stage.

Take your time aligning the adhesive to the frame. Incorrect application will require restarting with new adhesive.

  • Align and lay the top edge of the adhesive onto the frame.
  • Press down along the top edge to secure the alignment.
  • Slowly peel away the clear liner as you press the rest of the adhesive in place.

Press the adhesive firmly along the entire frame perimeter using a spudger.

Remove the large liner from the rear cover adhesive by peeling it off.

Remove any remaining liners from the replacement camera bezel adhesive.

Remove the perimeter adhesive liner.

  • Carefully inspect the frame for any remaining liners.
  • Remove the discovered liners.

Step 22 | Inspect the rear camera glass

Ensure the rear cover camera cutouts are free from debris.

  • Carefully wipe the cutouts with a lint-free cloth if necessary.

Never use any abrasive materials to clean the camera components — risk of damage.

Verify the rear camera lenses are free from dust or smudges.

  • Gently wipe the lenses with a lint-free cloth if needed.

Step 23 | Install the rear cover

Place the rear cover over the frame.

  • Firmly press the cover around the perimeter to secure the adhesive.
  • You can also apply pressure by holding your phone and squeezing firmly to strengthen the bond.
  • Leaving it overnight under a few books on a flat surface will provide an even more secure bond, ensuring no movement or shifting of the cover during use.
