Google Pixel 10a Rear Camera (Ultrawide) Replacement

Replacing this camera may compromise your phone's water resistance.

  • Your ultrawide rear camera needs replacing if it doesn't focus or stabilize properly or is damaged due to a cracked or scratched lens.
  • Replacement rear cover adhesives are required for this repair.

Step 1 | Prepare your Pixel for disassembly

Do not start the repair with a fully charged battery (25% or higher) to avoid risk of lithium-ion battery explosion.

  • Unplug all cables from the device and power it down completely using the power button.
  • Check the rear cover for any signs of bulging, indicating a swollen battery. If so, exercise extreme caution when proceeding with the repair.

Step 2 | Eject the SIM card tray

  • Insert a SIM card eject tool or a straightened paper clip into the small hole.
  • Press firmly to avoid damaging the SIM card tray.

  • Remove the SIM card tray.

Step 3 | Heat the rear cover

Heating may cause damage or discomfort. Proceed with caution.

  • Apply a hair dryer to heat the entire rear cover until it's hot to the touch.
  • For optimal results, refer to the provided guide on using hair dryers for adhesive removal.
  • As an alternative, use an iOpener to heat the edge, following the instructions in this separate guide.

Step 4 | Create an opening gap

Position a suction handle approximately at the center point on the right side edge of the rear cover.

Grasp the suction handle firmly and pull up with strong, steady force.

  • A gap should form between the cover and frame.
  • If a gap doesn't form, reheat the edge and try again.
  • Insert the tip of an opening pick into the gap.

Step 6 | Adhesive information

Remove the rear cover by gently prying around the frame perimeter and near the cameras.

Use the provided picture as a reference for proper adhesive removal.

  • When separating the left edge adhesive, insert your pick no more than 3 mm to avoid damaging the wireless charging coil and its graphite film.

  • Sliding a pick around the entire perimeter should separate the adhesive.
  • If separation is difficult, reapply heat before retrying.

Insert the opening pick near the top-left corner, prying gently to separate the adhesive around the camera bezel.

Slowly lift the rear cover upwards to remove it.

Collect the Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver and remove all fifteen 5.0 mm-long screws.

  • Thirteen gray screws.
  • Two silver non-magnetic screws.

Keep track of each screw to avoid damaging your phone and ensure accurate reassembly.

Step 11 | Unclip the wireless charging assembly

Insert an opening pick into a seam near the wireless charging assembly.

  • Pry up from the bottom-right corner, unclipping it from the first cutout.
  • Next, gently pry from the left edge near the power button, releasing it from the second cutout.

Step 12 | Remove the wireless charging assembly

Disconnect and remove the wireless charging module.

Step 13 | Remove the battery connector cover

Remove the Torx Plus 3IP screw using a Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver, securing the battery connector cover.

  • The screw is 1.9 mm long.

Remove the battery connector cover.

Damage to delicate components may occur if you pry in other areas.

  • Insert the point of a spudger under the top-right corner of the battery connector.
  • Pry up carefully to disconnect the battery connector.

Pry only in the area marked by a gold line on the circuit board.

Step 16 | Disconnect the front camera

Locate the front camera connector and insert a spudger under its top-left corner.

  • Pry up gently to disconnect the camera connector.
  • Carefully flip the camera module out of its recess, ensuring not to damage the copper foil

Step 17 | Remove the logic board screws

Locate and remove the Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver from storage.

  • Remove the screw near the front camera using a Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver.
  • Next, remove the screw at the bottom-right corner using the same Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver.

Ensure a proper fit and torque when removing screws to avoid damage.

  • Remove the two 2.9 mm-long Torx screws securing the logic board using a Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver.
  • The first screw is located near the front camera, and the second is at the bottom-right corner.

Step 18 | Remove the logic board

Use a spudger to gently pry the logic board near the front camera, starting from the bottom edge.

  • The goal is to loosen the board enough for removal.
  • Pry carefully to avoid damaging nearby components.

Ensure the SIM card tray is fully ejected.

  • Locate the notch at the bottom-right corner of the logic board.
  • Insert a spudger into the notch and pry up to loosen the logic board.

Temporarily bend battery connector away from logic board to avoid damage.

Hold the logic board by the edges with your fingertips.

Lift upwards carefully, then set aside safely.

Place the logic board on a flat, clean workspace with the camera connectors oriented upwards.

Slide the spudger under the wide camera connector's outer edge and gently pry upwards to release it.

  • Pry gently to disconnect the camera.

Reassembly of your phone begins now.

  • Start by carefully placing the main components back into their designated areas.
  • Make sure all connections are secure and properly aligned.

Leave any lens caps in place for now; they'll protect the lens during reassembly.

  • Place the ultrawide camera on the logic board, taking care not to smudge the lens.
  • Align the press connector with its socket and press down gently until it clicks into place.

Leave any lens caps on for now to protect the lens during reassembly.

  • Put the wide camera into place on the logic board.
  • Be careful not to smudge the lens

  • Align the press connector over its socket and press down with your fingertip-first on one short side, then the other-until it clicks into place.

Ensure the logic board is seated correctly.

  • The screen attaches via a press connector; it will be connected indirectly during installation.
  • Proceed with the next steps carefully to avoid misconnection.

Align the logic board with the frame, then gently insert it at a shallow angle until the USB-C port clicks securely into place.

Press the logic board near the USB-C port with your finger until you feel a click.

  • If it doesn't fit, try realigning the logic board so it presses snugly against the frame.
  • The logic board should fully seat against the plastic alignment pin.

Lever the battery connector away from the logic board using your fingers.

  • Position the top part of the logic board in its designated recess.
  • Use a small amount of force to align the parts. Gently guide the rear cameras into their respective cutouts with the tip of a spudger.

Install Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver.

  • Screw in one 2.9 mm-long logic board screw near the front camera.
  • Screw in another 2.9 mm-long logic board screw at bottom-right corner.

Align the front camera in its cutout using a spudger or your finger.

Press and connect the front camera press connector with your finger.

Align and press the battery press connector over its socket with your finger.

Avoid forcing the connector, as this can cause damage. Reposition and try again if needed.

Secure the battery connector cover by hooking its left edge into position.

Lay the cover down flat to ensure it is properly seated.

Install the battery connector cover screw using a Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver.

Ensure the screw is securely tightened to avoid damage or electrical issues.

Step 40 | Install the wireless charging assembly

Place the wireless charging assembly on the frame.

  • Press around the perimeter with your fingers to engage all clips.
  • Stop if assembly feels loose, check underneath for any obstructions.

Install the wireless charging assembly using a Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver.

  • Screw in thirteen gray 5.0 mm-long screws.
  • Secure with two silver non-magnetic screws.

Step 42 | Test your repair

Test your repair by powering on the phone and verifying all functions.

  • Run a diagnostics test using the built-in Pixel Diagnostic tool.
  • Verify that the screen and fingerprint sensor are functioning correctly.

If issues persist, reconnect the screen connector.

Power off the phone completely before proceeding with reassembly.

Step 43 | Clean the frame

Take your time cleaning the frame.

  • Remove adhesive from the frame perimeter using fingers, spudger, or tweezers.
  • If a large piece is removed, pull it slowly and straight in the opposite direction of the adhesive.

High concentration (>90%) isopropyl alcohol must be used to remove remaining adhesive residue with a lint-free cloth (or coffee filter).

Step 44 | Replace the camera bezel adhesive

Inspect the adhesive blocks around the rear cameras for cleanliness and wrinkles.

  • If they appear clean and unwrinkled, you can proceed to step 8.
  • Otherwise, use a spudger's point to gently pry up each adhesive block, then remove them.

  • Peel the clear liner from the camera bezel adhesive.

  • Carefully align and lay the adhesive in place, using the rear cameras for assistance.

Press the camera bezel adhesive firmly onto the frame using your fingers.

  • Peel away and remove the top blue liner.
  • A thin liner should still be covering the adhesive.

Step 47 | Replace the rear cover interior adhesive

Ensure the interior adhesive blocks are removed completely.

  • Inspect the interior adhesive blocks on the rear cover for cleanliness and wrinkle-free condition.
  • If clean, skip to Step 7.
    • Proceed with removing the interior adhesive blocks using a spudger.
    • Scrape and remove all remaining adhesive from the rear cover.

Remove the clear liner from the interior adhesive sheet.

  • Apply the adhesive sheet to the rear cover, using the camera cutout as a guide for alignment.
  • Carefully peel away the large liner from the adhesive.

Hold the rear cover adhesive over the phone's frame without removing any liners.

  • Use the camera cutout for reference when aligning the adhesive.

Peel the top half of the clear liner down to expose the adhesive, leaving it still attached.

Take your time aligning the adhesive to the frame, as incorrect application may require a restart with new adhesive.

  • Align and lay the top edge of the adhesive onto the frame.
  • Press down along the top edge to secure alignment.
  • Slowly peel away the clear liner as you press the rest of the adhesive in place.

  • Clean rear cameras with a lint-free cloth if necessary.
  • Remove lens caps or liners from the rear cameras and gently wipe any lenses with a lint-free cloth, if needed.

  • Lay the rear cover over the frame.
  • Firmly press around the perimeter to secure the adhesive.
  • To strengthen the adhesive bond, hold your phone and squeeze firmly around the perimeter.
  • An overnight curing process with your phone screen-down on a clean surface under books may improve the bond security.

Step 58 | Insert the SIM card tray
