Battery must be drained to at least 25% capacity — risk of explosion from a damaged lithium-ion battery.

  • Unplug all cables from the Pixel.
  • Power button: Press and hold until the phone shuts down completely.

Step 2 | Cracked glass preparation

Step 2 image

Cracked phone glass can cause injury or complicate repairs.

  • Apply packing tape to the cracked area, covering it completely, but avoid sticking tape to the frame.
  • Ensure a single strip of tape is across the bottom edge, large enough for a suction cup to fit on.

Consider wearing safety glasses during this repair to protect your eyes from flying glass shards.

Step 3 | Heat the bottom edge

Step 3 image

Improper heat gun use may damage the display and/or battery.

  • Apply an iOpener to the bottom edge of the back glass for 2 minutes.
  • Use a hair dryer or heat gun as an alternative, following these guidelines carefully.

Step 4 | Apply a suction handle

Step 4 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2

Position the suction handle at the center of the back glass's lower edge, ideally right next to it.

Step 5 | Insert an opening pick

Step 9 | Separate the right edge adhesive

Step 9 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Insert a third pick under the bottom right corner of the back glass.

  • Slide the pick up the right edge.

Insert the fourth pick under the top right corner.

  • Slide the pick along the top edge and around the top left corner.
  • Stop at the bottom of the camera bump.

Do not remove the back glass yet, as it's still connected by a ribbon cable.

Step 11 | Prop up the back glass

Step 11 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Turn the back glass upside down and position it beside the left edge of the phone.

  • Secure the back glass using a suction handle (or a sturdy object) to keep it elevated.
  • If the back glass still feels stuck, use an opening pick to carefully remove any remaining adhesive along the edges.
