Google Pixel 10 Rear Cameras Replacement

  • Follow this procedure to replace the rear cameras in your Google Pixel 10 if they are fuzzy or blurry or have stopped working entirely.
  • The three rear cameras (wide, ultrawide, and telephoto) are sold as a single assembly. Replacing one camera will require replacing all of them.

Step 1 | Prepare your Pixel for disassembly

Ensure the battery is below 25% charge to avoid risk of thermal runaway.

  • Disconnect all cables and shut down the device.

Step 2 | Cracked glass preparation

Cracked back glass can cause injury or complicate disassembly.

  • Apply strips of packing tape to the cracked glass, covering it completely.
  • A single strip of non-overlapping tape should span the bottom edge, large enough for a suction cup.
  • Tape only adheres to the glass; avoid sticking it to the .
  • Wear safety glasses to protect your eyes from loose glass during repair.

Step 3 | Heat the bottom edge

Improper use of a heat gun can cause damage to the display and/or battery.

  • Apply heat to the bottom edge of the back glass using an iOpener for two minutes.
  • Alternatively, you can use a hair dryer or heat gun.
  • The adhesive will soften, allowing the back glass to be separated from the frame more easily.

Step 4 | Apply a suction handle

Apply suction handle near the bottom edge of the back glass, as close as possible.

Apply strong, steady force to the suction handle.

  • A gap should form between the back glass and frame.
  • Insert the tip of an opening pick into the gap.

Avoid inserting tool into the area near the power button, where a sensitive cable is located.

  • Use the provided picture as a reference while separating the adhesive from around the frame's perimeter.
  • Target the adhesive for removal, avoiding the area near the power button to prevent cable damage.

Step 7 | Separate the bottom edge adhesive

Apply heat to the back glass if it feels stuck.

  • Use a heated tool or cloth and hold for a few seconds.

Wait for the adhesive to relax before proceeding, as re-sealing can damage the phone.

  • Slide an opening pick along the bottom edge of the back glass to separate the adhesive.
  • Leave the pick in the bottom left corner to prevent re-sealing.

Step 8 | Separate the bottom left adhesive

Insert a second pick under the bottom left corner.

  • Slide it up along the left edge until reaching the power button.
  • Leave the pick in place to prevent re-adhesion.

Step 9 | Separate the right edge adhesive

Insert the pick under the bottom right corner of the back glass.

  • Slide the pick up the right edge, working carefully.
  • Leave a second pick inserted under the top right corner.

Step 10 | Separate the top edge adhesive

Insert a pick under the top right corner.

  • Slide the pick along the top edge and slightly around the top left corner.
  • Stop at the bottom of the camera bump.

Do not attempt to fully remove the back glass yet, as it remains connected by a ribbon cable.

Step 11 | Prop up the back glass

Flip the back glass over the left side of the phone.

  • Use a suction handle or a sturdy object to prop it up.
  • If stuck, go back around the perimeter with an opening pick and separate any remaining adhesive.

Step 12 | Remove the bracket screws

Remove the Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver from storage.

  • Place the tip of the Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver into the screw head.
  • Turn the Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver clockwise to loosen the screws.

Two 5.0 mm‐long screws hold the bracket in place.

Careful not to scratch or smudge the rear cameras.

  • Remove the bracket with tweezers or your fingers.

Step 14 | Disconnect the back glass

Insert the pointed end of the spudger into the back glass press connector.

Gently pry upwards while simultaneously pulling on the connector to release it from its seating.

Step 15 | Remove the back glass

Disconnect the back glass to proceed with further repairs.

Step 16 | Remove the motherboard cover screws

Remove the Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver and unscrew the two 5.0 mm-long screws securing the motherboard cover.

Step 17 | Reposition the motherboard cover

Careful not to damage the graphite sheet.

  • Lift the motherboard cover with a spudger
  • Gently flip it towards the bottom of the phone.

Step 18 | Disconnect the battery

Insert the point of a spudger into the battery press connector.

  • Pry upward to release the connector from its socket.
  • The connector should now be free.

Step 19 | Remove the front camera bracket

Remove the Torx Plus 3IP screw using a matching driver.

Ensure the screw is fully removed before proceeding, as damage to the surrounding area may occur if it's not completely loose.

Step 20 | Remove the bracket

  • Push the front camera bracket's clip upward with the pointed end of a spudger.
  • Once released, remove the front camera bracket.

Remove the Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver and unscrew the two 5.0mm-long screws holding the mic cover in place.

Use the point of a spudger to pry up the three rear camera press connectors.

Disconnect and remove the rear cameras.

  • Remove any screws holding them in place.
  • Gently lift out the camera module from its housing.

Phone reassembly steps begin here.

  • Reattach all removed components in reverse order of removal.
  • Secure any loose parts with screws and clips.

Align the camera module over the mounting points on the motherboard.

  • Snap the camera module firmly into place.
  • Carefully secure it with screws.

Press down on the three rear camera press connectors with your finger.

Place the mic cover near the top left corner.

Use a Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver to install the two mic cover screws.

  • The screws are 5.0 mm long.

Step 30 | Install the front camera bracket

Careful not to touch the rear cameras.

  • Slide the top corners of the front camera bracket under the lip in the frame.
  • Press the clip in to secure it.

Step 31 | Check the thermal pad

Careful handling required when working with graphite film — damage will necessitate replacement.

  • Inspect the motherboard for a thermal pad, located on either the board's bottom edge or underside of the cover.
  • If damaged, proceed to the next two steps; otherwise, skip ahead two steps.

Be cautious when handling the motherboard cover, as graphite film remains intact.

  • Use a spudger's flat end to gently remove all old thermal pad from board and cover.
  • Clean up remaining residue with high-concentration (>90%) isopropyl alcohol, applied with a coffee filter or lint-free cloth.
  • Allow the alcohol to dry completely before continuing work.

Step 32 | Replace the thermal pad

Remove the larger liner from the thermal pad without cutting out any areas.

  • Lay the thermal pad in its square cutout on the underside of the motherboard cover.
  • Press down firmly on the entire surface of the pad using your finger or the flat end of a spudger.
  • Slowly peel up the remaining liner. If it starts to lift with the liner, press it back into place and try again.

Step 33 | Connect the battery

Press the battery press connector in place with your finger.

Step 34 | Install the motherboard cover

Flip the motherboard cover gently upwards and secure it in place.

Install the Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver.

  • Screw in the two 5.0 mm-long screws securing the motherboard cover.

Step 36 | Remove the old back glass adhesive

Remove all remaining old adhesive and its residue from the frame.

  • Set aside any reusable parts before cleaning the area.
  • Use a suitable tool to scrape off old adhesive, working carefully to avoid damage.

Incomplete removal can compromise seal quality.

Be cautious when removing back glass adhesive from the battery and surrounding components.

  • Use a spudger's tip to remove old screen adhesive from the frame.
  • Roll adhesive onto itself, making it easier to remove in one piece.
  • Apply one drop of high-concentration isopropyl alcohol (>90%) if needed to scrape away stubborn chunks.

Wrap a microfiber cloth around a spudger and apply 1 drop of >90% isopropyl alcohol.

  • Clean up remaining adhesive residue from the frame using the spudger, adding more drops as needed.
  • Let the alcohol dry completely before proceeding.

Reinstalling original back glass? Clean back glass with previously mentioned methods.

Step 40 | Orient the adhesive

Inspect the back glass adhesive's position on the frame before application.

  • Position the adhesive above the frame and rotate until its orientation is clear.
  • Use the rear camera cutout in the liner as a reference to ensure proper placement.

Remove the top half of the large, clear liner, exposing the adhesive underneath. Do not fully remove the liner yet.

Step 42 | Install the back glass adhesive

Take your time when aligning the adhesive with the frame, as it's very sticky and can't be moved once applied.

  • Lay the exposed top edge of the adhesive onto the frame with the larger, clear liner folded towards the bottom of the phone.
  • Use the lip of the frame to help align the adhesive.
  • Gently press down on the top corners to secure the adhesive once properly aligned.

Apply remaining adhesive to frame, pressing firmly and removing larger liner as it's applied.

Press down firmly on the adhesive with a spudger to secure it to the frame.

Remove the large colored liner by gripping it from the cutout near the top edge.

  • If adhesive peels up with the liner, check that all adhesive is pressed into place with a spudger.
  • Hold down any remaining adhesive with the point of your spudger as you remove the liner.

Press down firmly on the adhesive with a spudger to secure it to the frame.

Inspect the underside of your new back glass for protective liners and tape.

  • Remove all liners, checking carefully around front camera cutouts and bottom edge.
  • Liners with pull tabs can be easily identified; remove these first.

  • Attach a suction handle to the back glass and position it near the left edge.
  • Hold the device up with the cable aligned near its connector, or use a stable object like stacked books for support.

  • Use the flat end of a spudger to connect the back glass press connector to its socket.
  • Moving the back glass as needed can help with alignment, but do not force the connector into place. Reposition it and try again if necessary.

Step 50 | Install the bracket

Align the cable's bracket with its mounting point, ensuring the tab on the right edge is seated in the corresponding groove.

Install the Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver to secure the bracket using two 5.0 mm-long screws.

  • Power on your device and test all functions to ensure everything is working correctly.
  • If you encounter any issues, attempt basic troubleshooting before proceeding.
  • Ensure your device is powered down completely before continuing work.

Step 52 | Remove the remaining liners

Remove the remaining liners from the back glass adhesive.

  • If the adhesive starts to peel up with the liner, check that all of it is pushed into place.
  • If it continues to peel up, use the point of your spudger to hold it down as you remove the liners.

Step 53 | Install the back glass

Place back glass on frame and press firmly.

  • Ensure proper alignment
  • Hold phone upright, squeezing firmly around edges to secure bond.
