Google Pixel 10 Bottom Speaker Replacement

Note that any repair may compromise water resistance of your phone.

  • Replace the bottom speaker (also known as loudspeaker) if it exhibits issues such as crackling sounds or static.

The gasket between the speaker and frame offers protection against dust and water. Be aware that this protective seal may be compromised based on your phone's age and condition.

Step 1 | Prepare your Pixel for disassembly

Let the battery drain below 25% to avoid potential fire hazard when repairing a damaged lithium-ion battery.

  • Unplug all cables from the Pixel device.
  • Power down the phone completely by pressing and holding the power button.

Step 2 | Cracked glass preparation

Cracked back glass can cause injury or complicate disassembly.

  • Apply packing tape strips across the cracked glass, overlapping none, until completely covered.
  • Ensure a single strip of tape is positioned at the bottom edge, large enough for a suction cup to fit on.
  • Avoid applying tape to the frame; only cover the glass itself.

Consider wearing safety glasses to protect your eyes from loose glass fragments.

Step 3 | Heat the bottom edge

Improper heat gun usage may damage the display and/or battery.

  • Apply an iOpener to the bottom edge of the back glass for two minutes, heating it gently.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer or heat gun to warm the back glass.

Heated adhesive will loosen, allowing easy separation of the back glass from the frame.

Step 4 | Apply a suction handle

Position the suction handle directly above the center point on the lower edge of the back glass, ensuring contact with the glass is optimal.

Step 5 | Insert an opening pick

Apply firm, consistent pressure to the suction handle until space appears between the back glass and frame.

  • Carefully insert the opening pick into the created gap.

Step 6 | Back glass adhesive information

Start by examining the back glass and its adhesive seals around the frame perimeter.

  • Use the reference picture provided to guide you through the separation process.
  • Avoid inserting your pick near the power button, as it will damage the connecting cable.

Step 7 | Separate the bottom edge adhesive

Apply heat to stuck areas of back glass for 30 seconds.

  • Insert opening pick at bottom edge and slide it up to separate adhesive.
  • Leave pick under bottom left corner to keep adhesive open.

Step 8 | Separate the bottom left adhesive

Insert a second pick under the bottom left corner and slide it up the left edge.

  • Stop at the power button.
  • Leave the pick inserted to prevent the adhesive from re-sealing.

Step 9 | Separate the right edge adhesive

Insert a third pick under the bottom right corner of the back glass, then slide it up along the right edge.

  • Stop inserting the third pick when it reaches the top right corner and leave it in place.

Step 10 | Separate the top edge adhesive

Insert a picket under the top right corner.

  • Slide the pick along the top edge and around the top left corner, stopping at the bottom of the camera bump.

Do not attempt to fully remove the back glass yet, as it's still connected by a ribbon cable.

Step 11 | Prop up the back glass

  • Flip the back glass over the left side of the phone.
  • Use a suction handle or sturdy object to prop it up securely.
  • If the back glass remains stuck, use an opening pick to carefully separate any remaining adhesive along the perimeter.

Step 12 | Remove the bracket screws

Remove the Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver and use it to take out the two 5.0 mm-long screws that hold the back glass connector bracket in place.

  • The screws are located at the end of the back panel.

Careful not to scratch or smudge the rear cameras.

  • Remove the bracket using tweezers or your fingers.

Step 14 | Disconnect the back glass

Use the point of a spudger to pry up and release the back glass press connector.

Step 15 | Remove the back glass

Remove the back glass.

Step 16 | Remove the bottom speaker screws

Use a Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver to remove the two 5.0 mm long screws holding the bottom speaker in place.

Step 17 | Remove the bottom speaker

  • Hold the speaker near the top edge of the phone.
  • Gently pull the speaker away from its mounting point to release it.
  • Remove the speaker from the phone.

Position the bottom speaker with a slight downward angle, ensuring the speaker gasket aligns with its designated cutout.

Firmly press the bottom speaker into place, seated within its recess.

Install the Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver. Secure the bottom speaker with two 5.0 mm-long screws.

Step 21 | Remove the old back glass adhesive

Remove all remaining old adhesive and its residue from the frame.

  • Take your time when cleaning the frame to prevent any damage or scratches.

  • A clean frame is crucial for a proper seal, so ensure all old adhesive is completely removed before proceeding.

Remove old screen adhesive from the frame using a spudger.

  • Try to roll the adhesive onto itself to make removal easier.
  • If necessary, apply one drop of isopropyl alcohol (90% or higher) and scrape off remaining chunks with your spudger.

Be extremely careful not to damage the battery or nearby fragile components when removing adhesive near the frame's perimeter.

Wrap a microfiber or lint-free cloth around a spudger.

  • Apply a single drop of high-concentration (>90%) isopropyl alcohol to the end.
  • Use the spudger to clean up all remaining adhesive residue from the frame, adding more drops as needed.
  • Let the alcohol dry completely before continuing.

Repeat cleaning procedure on back glass if reinstalling original.

  • Clean rear display connector.
  • Dry rear display area.

Step 25 | Orient the adhesive

Verify the back glass adhesive's orientation over the before application.

  • Hold the adhesive above the frame to determine its position.
  • Use the rear camera cutout in the liner for visual reference.

Peel down the top half of the large, clear liner to expose the adhesive. Do not fully remove the liner yet.

Step 27 | Install the back glass adhesive

Take your time when aligning the adhesive with the frame, as it's very sticky and can't be moved once applied.

  • Lay the exposed top edge of the adhesive onto the with the larger, clear liner folded towards the bottom of the phone.
  • Use the lip of the frame to help align the adhesive.
  • Gently press down on the top corners to secure the adhesive once properly aligned.

Slowly apply the remaining adhesive to the frame, pressing firmly in place while removing the large liner.

Press down firmly on the adhesive with a spudger.

Step 30 | Remove the larger liner

Peel up and remove the large colored liner slowly from its cutout near the top edge.

  • If the adhesive starts to come up with the liner, check that it's seated properly with your spudger.
  • If the adhesive continues to peel up, hold it down with the point of your spudger as you remove the liner.

Press down firmly on the adhesive with a spudger.

Step 32 | Remove any liners from the back glass

Inspect the underside of the new back glass for protective liners and tape.

  • Remove all liners from the back glass, paying special attention to the front camera cutouts and bottom edge.
  • Identify the liners by their pull tabs or other visible indications.

Step 33 | Prop up the back glass

Position the back glass with a suction handle and place it on the left side.

  • The cable should be near its connector.
  • An alternative is to use a sturdy object, such as books, for support.

Step 34 | Connect the back glass cable

Use the flat end of a spudger to connect the back glass press connector to its socket.

  • There may be limited play in the cable, so move the back glass as needed for assistance.
  • Avoid forcing the connector into place; reposition and try again if necessary.

Step 35 | Install the bracket

Position the cable's bracket with the tab on the right edge securely seated under its designated groove.

Power off your device completely before proceeding to avoid any risk of electric shock or data loss.

  • Install the two 5.0 mm-long screws using a Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver.
  • Power on your device and test all functions, performing basic troubleshooting if necessary.
  • Once finished testing, power down completely before continuing work.

Step 37 | Remove the remaining liners

Remove remaining liners from back glass adhesive.

  • If adhesive starts peeling up with liner, check if all was pushed in place with spudger.
  • Hold down peel-up area with spudger point if it continues to lift.

Step 38 | Install the back glass

Flip the back glass onto the frame and press it firmly into place.

  • Hold your phone up and squeeze firmly around the perimeter to strengthen the bond.
  • To achieve an even stronger bond, you can:
    • Stack books on the back glass
    • Use screen vise clamps
