Google Pixel 10 Pro Back Glass Replacement

Step 1 | Prepare your Pixel for disassembly

A fully charged battery is a risk factor for thermal runaway during repairs.

  • Ensure the Pixel's battery is below 25% capacity before proceeding.
  • Completely power down the device and unplug all cables.

Cracked back glass can cause injury or complicate disassembly.

  • Apply strips of packing tape over the cracked glass, making sure it's fully covered.
  • Ensure a single strip of tape spans the bottom edge, big enough for a suction cup to fit.
  • Avoid applying tape to the frame, only cover the glass itself.

Consider wearing safety glasses to protect your eyes from potential debris.

Step 3 | Heat the bottom edge

Improper use of a heat gun can damage the display and/or battery; follow the provided link for safe usage.

  • iOpener: Heat it and apply to the bottom edge of the back glass for two minutes.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer or heat gun to heat the back glass.

Step 4 | Apply a suction handle

Apply suction handle to the center of the bottom edge of the back glass, as near the edge as possible.

Step 5 | Insert an opening pick

Grasp the suction handle firmly and apply consistent pressure.

  • A gap should form between the back glass and frame.
  • Insert the tip of an opening pick into the created gap.

Step 6 | Back glass adhesive information

Remove the back glass by separating the adhesive using the provided reference picture.

  • Avoid inserting your pick into the area near the power button, as it may damage the connecting cable.

Step 7 | Separate the bottom edge adhesive

Apply heat if back glass feels stuck.

  • Slide opening pick along bottom edge to separate adhesive.
  • Insert pick under bottom left corner to prevent re-sealing.

Step 8 | Separate the bottom left adhesive

  • Insert a pick under the bottom left corner of the device.
  • Slide the pick up the left edge, stopping at the power button.
  • Leave the pick inserted to prevent adhesive re-sealing.

Step 9 | Separate the right edge adhesive

Insert pick under bottom right back glass corner.

  • Slide pick up right edge, leaving another at top right corner.

Step 10 | Separate the top edge adhesive

Insert a pick under the top right corner.

  • Slide the pick along the top edge and around the top left corner, stopping at the bottom of the camera bump.
  • Do not remove the back glass yet as it is still connected by a ribbon cable.

Step 11 | Prop up the back glass

Flip the back glass over the left side of the phone.

  • Use a suction handle or sturdy object to prop it up.
  • If still stuck, go back around the perimeter with an opening pick and separate any remaining adhesive.

Step 12 | Remove the bracket screws

Remove the Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver and take out the two screws (5.8 mm long) securing the back glass connector bracket.

  • Slide the cover towards the center using tweezers, unhooking the tabs.
  • Remove the cover carefully to avoid damaging the battery or rear cameras.

Step 14 | Disconnect the back glass

  • Pry up the battery and back glass press connectors using the pointed end of a spudger.

Step 15 | Remove the back glass

Reassembly begins now.

  • Start with the battery and secure it as installed during initial setup.
  • Next, reconnect the screen connector.

Step 17 | Remove the old back glass adhesive

Remove all remaining adhesive and residue from the frame before installing new adhesive.

  • Use appropriate tools to remove any old adhesive that is still present on the frame.
  • A clean surface ensures proper adhesion of the new adhesive.

Risk of damage to battery or fragile components near frame perimeter.

  • Use a spudger to remove old screen adhesive from the frame, rolling it onto itself to form a ball.
  • For larger balls, use tweezers to slowly pull in opposite direction of spudger.
  • For smaller chunks, apply one drop of >90% isopropyl alcohol and scrape with spudger.

Wrap a microfiber cloth around a spudger.

  • Clean the frame using the spudger and high-concentration isopropyl alcohol (90%+), applying drops as needed.
  • Let the alcohol dry completely before continuing.

Repeat the cleaning procedure on the back glass.

  • Follow the same steps as for the display.

Position the back glass adhesive above the frame and use the rear camera cutout as a reference point.

  • Verify the adhesive orientation before application to avoid reapplication.
  • Restart with new adhesive if incorrect placement is detected.

Expose the adhesive by peeling down the top half of the clear liner, but do not remove it completely.

Take your time when aligning the adhesive with the frame, as it's very sticky and can't be moved after application.

  • Lay the exposed top edge of the adhesive onto the frame, using the liner folded towards the bottom of the phone for guidance.
  • Use the lip of the frame to help align the adhesive.
  • Gently press down on the top corners to secure the adhesive in place.

Apply remaining adhesive to the frame, spreading it evenly as you peel off large liner sections.

Press down firmly on the adhesive with a spudger to secure it to the frame.

Slowly pull up the large colored liner from the cutout near the top edge.

  • If the adhesive starts to come along with the liner, check that all of it is seated properly with your spudger.
  • Hold the liner down with the point of your spudger if it continues to peel up.

Step 27 | Remove any liners from the back glass

Inspect your new back glass for protective liners and tape on the underside.

  • Remove all liners from the back glass, paying special attention to front camera cutouts and bottom edge.
  • Look for pull tabs to help identify and remove each liner.

Step 28 | Prop up the back glass

  • Attach a suction handle to the back glass and position it on the left side, with the cable close to its connector.
  • As an alternative, use a sturdy object (like a stack of books) to support the back glass in place.

Step 29 | Reconnect the back glass and battery

Pressing connectors improperly may cause pin bending and permanent damage.

  • For wider connectors like the back glass one, press down on one short side until it clicks into place.
  • Repeat on the other short side; do not press in the middle of the connector.
  • Press firmly to connect the battery and back glass press connectors with your finger.

Align and snap the back glass connector cover into position, ensuring the tabs securely engage with their corresponding slots.

Install the cover with a Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver. Use two 5.8 mm-long screws.

Step 32 | Secure the adhesive

Press down firmly on the adhesive using a spudger to secure it to the frame.

  • Power on your device and test all functions, then power back down completely before proceeding.
  • If issues arise, attempt basic troubleshooting measures.

Step 33 | Remove the remaining liners

Remove the remaining liners from the back glass adhesive.

  • If the liner starts to peel up, check that all adhesive is seated with your spudger.
  • Hold down the peeling liner with the point of your spudger if necessary.

Step 34 | Install the back glass

Flip the back glass onto the frame.

  • Press it firmly into place.
  • To strengthen the bond, squeeze around the perimeter of your phone.
  • Alternatively, use a screen vise clamp or stack books on the back glass for an even stronger bond.
