Thumbnail 2

Lithium-ion battery damage can cause a fire, so let the phone discharge to below 25%

  • Unplug all cables.
  • Power down the phone completely.

Step 2 | Cracked glass preparation

Step 2 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Glass shards can cause injury or complicate disassembly.

Apply packing tape strips to cracked screen, covering whole area, but not overlapping and only on glass itself.

  • Maintain a single strip of tape across top edge for suction cup attachment.
  • Avoid sticking tape to phone frame.

Consider wearing safety glasses during the repair process to protect eyes from flying debris.

Step 3 | Heat the screen

Step 3 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Follow linked instructions for safe heat gun use — risk of display and battery damage.

  • Heat the entire screen using a hair dryer, heat gun, or heat pad until almost too hot to touch.
  • For a heat pad, set to 60° C (140° F) and apply for 10 minutes with phone screen side down.

Step 4 | Apply a suction handle

Step 4 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2

Attach the suction handle to the centre of the screen's top edge, as near to the edge as feasible.

Step 5 | Insert an opening pick

Step 5 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Be patient when inserting an opening pick, as it can be challenging.

  • Reheat the screen if necessary and reattempt with strong, steady force on the suction handle.
  • Guide the tip of the opening pick completely under the screen's edge.
  • Avoid placing the pick only under the glass panel, as this will make removal difficult.
  • Insert the pick only a few millimeters to avoid damaging the front camera.

Step 6 | Separate the screen adhesive

Step 6 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Insert an opening pick at the top edge and slide it along, prying the adhesive apart.

Step 7

Step 7 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Continue sliding the pick around the perimeter of the screen until all adhesive is separated.

  • Leave picks inserted at the corners to prevent re-sealing.
  • If the screen feels stuck, reheat it as needed.

Do not attempt to remove the screen yet — a ribbon cable still connects it.

Step 8 | Prop up the screen

Step 8 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Risk of damaging the screen or its cables if not handled properly.

  • Use an opening pick to remove any remaining adhesive around the perimeter of the screen.
  • Flip the top edge of the screen over the bottom edge and use a suction handle to prop it up, gaining access to the screen cable connector.
  • Alternatively, lay the screen flat over the bottom edge; be cautious not to strain the screen cable.

Step 9 | Remove the screen cable bracket

Step 9 image

Thumbnail 3

Remove old screen adhesive from frame using spudger.

  • Try to "roll" adhesive onto itself to form a ball.
  • If a large enough chunk forms, use tweezers to slowly pull it in the opposite direction of your scraping motion.

Step 16

Step 16 image

Wrap a microfiber or lint-free cloth around a spudger.

  • Use the spudger and a drop of high-concentration (>90%) isopropyl alcohol to clean up all remaining adhesive residue from the frame.
  • Apply more drops as necessary, then let the alcohol dry completely before continuing.

Step 17 | Press the screen cable down

Step 17 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2

Push the screen cable down using your fingers to ensure a flat fit.

  • Sit the screen cable as flush as possible against the frame.

Step 18 | Remove the screen cable adhesive

Step 18 image

Thumbnail 3

Risk of damaged cable or connector if not handled carefully.

  • Hold the screen cable down with one hand.
  • Use a spudger to gently scrape up and remove the adhesive near the connector with your other hand.

Careless removal may result in non-functional screen. Reusing old adhesive may be an acceptable alternative if new adhesive is unavailable.

Step 19 | Orient the adhesive

Step 19 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Check if your replacement screen has pre-installed adhesive around its perimeter.

  • If adhesive is already installed, skip down seven steps.
  • Otherwise:
    • Determine how the new screen adhesive will sit on the frame.
    • Incorrect application may require restarting with new adhesive.

    • Hold the adhesive above the frame to check its orientation.
    • Use cutouts in the liner and adhesive contours to visualize fit.

Step 20 | Apply the adhesive

Step 20 image

Peel up clear liner at the bottom for 1/2 only.

  • Expose adhesive underneath without removing the liner completely.

Step 21

Step 21 image

Take your time when aligning the adhesive with the frame, as it's very sticky and cannot be moved once applied.

  • Lay the exposed bottom edge of the adhesive onto the frame, ensuring the larger clear liner is folded towards the top of the phone.
  • Use the lip of the frame to help guide the alignment of the adhesive.
  • Gently press down on the top corners to secure the adhesive once aligned.

Step 22

Step 22 image

Thumbnail 2

Locate and remove all protective liners and tape from the underside of your replacement screen.

  • Inspect the area around the front-facing camera cutout carefully.
  • Check near the bottom edge of the screen for additional liners or tape.

Identify liners by their pull tabs to avoid leaving any residue on the screen.

Step 28 | Remove screen liners

Step 28 image
