Google Pixel 10 Pro XL Front Camera Replacement

Note that any repair may compromise the phone's water resistance.

  • This guide is for replacing the selfie camera (also known as the front camera) in your device.
  • If you experience blurry or fuzzy camera images, or complete loss of function, consider replacing the camera.
  • You will need new back glass and front camera adhesive to complete this repair.

Step 1 | Prepare your Pixel for disassembly

Ensure the Pixel's battery is drained to at least 25% or lower.

  • Disconnect all cables from the device.
  • Power down the phone completely.

Step 2 | Cracked glass preparation

Cracked back glass can cause injury or complicate disassembly.

  • Apply packing tape strips across cracked glass, ensuring it's fully covered.
  • A single strip of tape should run along the bottom edge, big enough for a suction cup to fit.
  • Only cover the glass itself; do not stick tape to the frame.
  • Consider wearing safety glasses to protect eyes from loose glass.

Step 3 | Heat the bottom edge

Careful: improper use of a heat gun may damage the display and/or battery.

  • Heat an iOpener for 2 minutes on the bottom edge of the back glass.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer or heat gun to soften the adhesive.

Follow proper usage instructions when using a heat gun to avoid damage.

Step 4 | Apply a suction handle

Attach a suction handle to the center of the back glass's lower edge, as close to the edge as possible.

Apply firm pressure to the suction handle until a small gap appears between the back glass and the .

  • Slide the tip of an opening pick into the created gap.

Use the provided image for reference when separating the adhesive around the perimeter of the frame.

  • Avoid damaging the cable connected near the power button.
  • Insert your pick carefully, excluding the area near the power button where the cable is located.

Step 7 | Separate the bottom edge adhesive

Apply heat if the back glass feels stuck.

  • Slide an opening pick along the bottom edge to separate the adhesive.
  • Leave the pick in place, especially at the bottom left corner, to prevent the adhesive from re-sealing.

Step 8 | Separate the bottom left adhesive

Insert a pick under the bottom left corner.

  • Slide the pick up the left edge until it reaches the power button.
  • Leave the pick inserted to prevent re-sealing of the adhesive.

Step 9 | Separate the right edge adhesive

Insert a third pick under the bottom right corner of the back glass.

  • Slide the pick up the right edge.
  • Leave it inserted under the top right corner.

Step 10 | Separate the top edge adhesive

Insert a pick under the top right corner.

  • Slide the pick along the top edge and slightly around the top left corner.
  • Stop at the bottom of the camera bump.

Do not remove the back glass yet, as it is still connected by a ribbon cable.

Flip the back glass over the left side of the phone.

  • Use a suction handle (or a sturdy object) to prop it up.
  • If stuck, go around the perimeter with an opening pick and separate any remaining adhesive.

Step 12 | Remove the bracket screws

Remove the two Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver screws securing the back glass connector bracket using a Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver.

  • The screws are approximately 2.3 mm in length.

Do not scratch or smudge the rear cameras.

  • Remove the bracket using either tweezers or your fingers.

Step 14 | Disconnect the back glass

Insert the point of the spudger between the connectors.

  • Pry up on the battery connector.
  • Deseat the back glass press connector.

Step 15 | Remove the back glass

Step 16 | Remove the motherboard cover screws

Use a Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver to remove the four motherboard cover screws.

  • The screws are 5.0 mm long.
  • Remove all four screws before proceeding.

Step 18 | Disconnect the front camera

Use the point of a spudger to gently pry up and release the front camera press connector.

Remove the Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver-secured 5.0 mm-long screw.

  • Hold the screwdriver firmly in place and turn it counterclockwise until the screw is removed.

Step 20 | Remove the front camera cover

Insert the spudger into the camera bracket's clip.

Push upwards on the clip to release it.

  • Continue pushing until the cover is freed.

Remove the front camera by prying it up with a flat tool, starting at the top edge.

  • Insert the tip of a plastic opening pick into the recess under the front camera.
  • Gently pry the front camera upwards to release its adhesive and remove it.

Reassembly of your phone is now underway.

Step 23 | Remove the old front camera adhesive

Scrape away old front camera adhesive with the spudger tip, then use tweezers to carefully lift out residue.

Risk of damage: Ensure the camera lens is not exposed to the cleaning solution.

  • Wrap a spudger in a microfiber cloth and apply one drop of high-concentration (>90%) isopropyl alcohol.
  • Clean up any adhesive residue from the front camera recess with gentle, targeted strokes.
  • Allow the alcohol to dry completely before continuing.

Step 25 | Install new front camera adhesive

Remove the large clear liner from the front camera adhesive.

  • Gently place the liner into its recess.
  • Use a spudger to press down firmly on the adhesive, securing it in place.

If the adhesive starts to peel up with the liner, lay it flat and repress it before trying again to avoid damage or air bubbles.

Slowly peel up and remove the remaining liner.

Step 26 | Remove any protective caps

Remove the protective cap from the new front camera.

Locate the front camera and gently press it into its designated recess.

  • The cable should face downwards during this process.
  • Ensure the camera is securely seated in its position.

Avoid accidental damage to the rear cameras.

  • Align the front camera bracket with the frame's lip and slide its top corners underneath.
  • Press the clip firmly in place to secure it.

Insert the Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver and drive in the 5.0 mm-long screw securing the front camera cover.

Step 30 | Reconnect the front camera

Press the front camera press connector onto its socket with your finger.

  • Start by pressing down on one of the shorter sides until you hear a click.
  • Next, press down on the other side to secure it in place.

Reattach the motherboard cover.

  • Install the motherboard cover using a Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver.
  • Secure the cover with four 5.0 mm-long screws.

Step 33 | Remove the old back glass adhesive

Remove all old adhesive and its residue from the frame thoroughly.

  • Set aside any removed material for future disposal.

A clean frame is crucial for proper installation.

  • Allow new adhesive to dry completely, ensuring a flat surface.
  • This will achieve an optimal seal around the back glass.

Be extremely cautious when removing back glass adhesive to avoid damaging the battery or fragile components.

  • Use a spudger's point to gently remove old screen adhesive from the frame, rolling it onto itself as you scrape.
  • If a large chunk forms, carefully pull it away with tweezers in the opposite direction of scraping.
  • For smaller chunks, apply one drop of high-concentration (>90%) isopropyl alcohol and scrape them up with your spudger.

Wrap a microfiber cloth around a spudger.

  • Use the spudger and high-concentration isopropyl alcohol (>90%) to clean up remaining adhesive residue from the frame.
  • Apply more drops of alcohol as necessary, then let it dry completely before continuing.

Reinstalling original back glass? Clean it using same procedures as previous two steps.

Step 37 | Orient the adhesive

Position the back glass adhesive over the phone's frame and orient it with the rear camera cutout aligned.

  • Check the adhesive's position by holding it above the frame.
  • Use the liner's rear camera cutout to ensure correct alignment.

Incorrect application will require a new adhesive and restart of the process.

Peel the top half of the larger, clear liner back to reveal the adhesive.

  • Do not fully remove the liner at this point.

Take your time when aligning the adhesive with the frame as it's very sticky and can't be moved once applied.

  • Lay the exposed top edge of the adhesive onto the frame, folded clear liner towards the bottom of the phone.
  • Use the lip of the frame to help align the adhesive.
  • Gently press down on the top corners to secure the adhesive once it's properly aligned.

Apply remaining adhesive to the frame, pressing firmly while removing the clear liner.

Press down firmly on the adhesive with a spudger to secure it to the frame.

Peel up and remove the large colored liner, gripping from the cutout near the top edge.

  • If the adhesive starts to come up, check that the spudger has pushed all of it into place.
  • Hold down any stubborn areas with the point of your spudger as you remove the liner.

Step 43 | Remove any liners from the back glass

Remove protective liners and tape on the underside of the new back glass.

  • Check carefully for varying pieces in different locations.
  • Focus removal efforts on front camera cutouts and bottom edge.
  • The liners can usually be identified by pull tabs.

Position the suction handle at the back glass and secure the phone with it on the left side.

  • The cable should be near its connector for safe removal.
  • Alternatively, use a sturdy object like books to prop up the back glass.

Step 45 | Reconnect the back glass and battery

Press down on a short side of the back glass connector until it clicks into place.

Avoid pressing down in the middle or on misaligned connectors to prevent pin bending and damage.

Repeat the process for the other short side, then move to the battery press connector.

  • If issues arise, perform basic troubleshooting steps.

Remove any remaining liners from the back glass adhesive.

  • If adhesive peels with liner, ensure all adhesive is fully seated with your spudger.
  • Hold down peeling adhesive with spudger tip if necessary.

Flip the back glass onto the frame and press it firmly into place.

  • Hold your phone up and squeeze firmly around the perimeter to strengthen the bond.
  • To achieve an even stronger bond, use e.g., books or screen vise clamps.
