Google Pixel 10 Pro XL Battery Replacement

Batteries have limited lifespans; if your phone won't charge or dies suddenly, it may need a new one. If your battery is swollen, take precautions to avoid damage.

  • Be aware that any repair can compromise water resistance.
  • To retain water resistance, apply new adhesives accurately and keep surfaces clean.

Step 1 | Prepare your Pixel for disassembly

Allow the Pixel's battery to drop below 25% charge level before proceeding.

  • Unplug all cables from the device.
  • Power down the phone completely.

Step 2 | Cracked glass preparation

Cracked phone back glass can cause injury or complicate disassembly.

  • Apply strips of packing tape over cracked glass, making sure not to touch the frame.
  • Use a single non-overlapping strip of tape across the bottom edge for suction cup attachment.

Wear safety glasses to protect your eyes from flying glass shards during the repair.

Step 3 | Heat the bottom edge

Improper use of a heat gun may damage the display and/or battery.

  • Apply an iOpener to the bottom edge of the back glass for two minutes, heating it evenly.
  • Alternatively, you can use a hair dryer or heat gun to warm up the adhesive.

When using a heat gun, follow the provided instructions carefully to avoid damage.

Step 4 | Apply a suction handle

Attach a suction handle to the center of the back glass's lower edge, positioned as near the edge as feasible.

Grasp the suction handle firmly and apply steady pressure.

  • A gap should form between the back glass and frame.
  • Insert the tip of an opening pick into the formed gap.

Do not damage the cable connecting the back glass near the power button.

  • Reference the provided picture while separating the adhesive around the frame perimeter.
  • Avoid inserting a pick near the power button to prevent damaging the cable.

Step 7 | Separate the bottom edge adhesive

Apply heat if the back glass feels stuck.

  • Slide an opening pick along the bottom edge to separate the adhesive.
  • Leave the pick inserted under the bottom left corner after removing it.

Step 8 | Separate the bottom left adhesive

  • Slide a second pick under the bottom left corner and work it up the left edge.
  • Stop the pick at the power button.
  • Leave the pick in place to prevent the adhesive from re-sealing.

Step 9 | Separate the right edge adhesive

  • Insert a third pick under the bottom right corner of the back glass.
  • Slide the pick up the right edge, leaving it in place at the top right corner.

Do not attempt to fully remove the back glass yet.

  • Slide the pick along the top edge and slightly around the top left corner, stopping at the bottom of the camera bump.

Step 11 | Prop up the back glass

Flip the back glass over the left side of the phone.

  • Use a suction handle or a sturdy object to prop it up securely.
  • If still stuck, go back around the perimeter with an opening pick and remove remaining adhesive.

Step 12 | Remove the bracket screws

Remove the Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver and use it to unscrew the two 2.3 mm-long screws securing the back glass connector bracket.

Risk of damaging the rear camera lenses.

  • Remove the bracket using a pair of tweezers or your fingers.
  • Avoid scratching or smudging the rear cameras.

Step 14 | Disconnect the back glass

  • Use the tip of a spudger to carefully disconnect the battery and back glass press connectors.

Step 15 | Remove the back glass

Step 16 | Remove the motherboard cover screws

Remove the Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver and secure it in place.

  • Locate the four screws (5.0 mm long) securing the motherboard cover.
  • Use the Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver to remove these screws.

Locate and position the Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver for optimal use.

  • Remove five screws, each measuring 5.0 mm in length.
  • Remove two additional screws, each measuring 4.1 mm in length.

Step 19 | Remove the USB‐C board cover

Remove the USB-C board cover.

Use a spudger to gently pry up and release the interconnect cable press connector attached to the USB-C board.

  • Pry up the second interconnect cable press connector on the motherboard.
  • Once released, carefully disconnect both connectors from their respective boards.

Step 21 | Remove the interconnect cable

Disconnect and remove the interconnect cable.

Peel the battery tab upwards using your fingers.

  • Including the skinny strip on the side.
  • Continue peeling up the entire tab on the left side of the battery.

Put on finger stalls for better grip.

  • If you don't have them, wear latex/nitrile or rubber gloves.

Step 24 | Separate the battery adhesive

Avoid applying pressure to delicate components or covering the battery.

  • Secure your phone with one hand, ensuring your grip is on the frame only.
  • Grip the battery pull tab with your free hand.
  • Pull straight up on the tab, applying constant and steady force until the adhesive separates.

Step 25 | Remove the battery

Hold the battery firmly, then slowly pull it away from the phone.

  • The plastic sleeve will be pulled out of its recess as you do this.
  • Once detached, remove the battery.

Reassembly of your phone begins now.

  • Refer to the original disassembly instructions in reverse order for a step-by-step guide.

Step 27 | Clean the battery recess

Check the recess for leftover plastic bits and adhesive from the old sleeve.

  • If the old battery came out cleanly, you can skip this step.
  • Remove any remaining plastic bits from the old sleeve.

Use high-concentration isopropyl alcohol (>90%) to clean adhesive residue without getting it in the cutouts or damaging the screen below.

  • Apply one or two drops of isopropyl alcohol to a microfiber cloth and gently wipe away any residue.

Allow the area to dry completely before proceeding with the new battery installation.

Step 28 | Remove the battery liner

Remove the large, colored liner from the battery.

This will expose the adhesive underneath.

Reconnect the battery press connector by pushing down on it with your finger.

  • Lift the battery above its recess and guide it in.
  • Press down firmly to secure the battery in place.

Use a spudger to gently pry up and release the battery.

  • Pry carefully near the battery connector.
  • Disconnect the battery once it is loose.

Use your fingers to carefully remove any remaining sticker or liner from the battery.

Reconnect the interconnect cable in its original position.

Press down firmly on each interconnect cable press connector with your finger to reseat them.

  • Install the five Torx Plus 3IP screws that are 5.0 mm long.
  • Install the two Torx Plus 3IP screws that are 4.1 mm long.

Step 36 | Place the motherboard cover

Replace the motherboard cover carefully.

Install the Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver and secure the motherboard cover using four 5.0 mm-long screws.

  • Select a Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver for installation.
  • Secure the motherboard cover with four 5.0 mm-long screws.

Step 38 | Remove the old back glass adhesive

All old adhesive and residue must be thoroughly removed from the frame before applying new adhesive.

  • Take extra care when scraping off the old adhesive to avoid damaging the frame.
  • Clean the entire area with a soft cloth or brush, removing any remaining residue for optimal results.

Careful not to damage battery or fragile components when removing back glass adhesive.

  • Use a spudger point to remove old screen adhesive from frame, rolling it onto itself to form balls.
  • If a large chunk forms, use tweezers to slowly pull it in the opposite direction of spudger's scraping motion.
  • For smaller chunks, apply one drop of >90% isopropyl alcohol and scrape with spudger.

Risk of skin irritation: Wear gloves when handling isopropyl alcohol.

  • Wrap a microfiber or lint-free cloth around a spudger.
  • Use the spudger and high-concentration (>90%) isopropyl alcohol to clean remaining adhesive residue from the frame.
  • Apply more drops of alcohol as necessary, then let it dry completely before continuing.

Repeat steps 3 and 4 for the back glass if reusing the original panel.

Verify the back glass adhesive's alignment on the frame before application.

  • Hold the adhesive above the frame to gauge its correct placement.
  • Refer to the rear camera cutout in the liner for orientation guidance.

Incorrect adhesive installation may require starting anew with fresh adhesive.

Peel down the top 1/2 of the larger, clear liner to expose the adhesive.

Do not fully remove the liner yet.

Step 44 | Install the back glass adhesive

Take your time and carefully align the adhesive with the frame.

  • The adhesive is very sticky; do not attempt to move it after application.
  • Place the larger, clear liner towards the bottom of the phone.
  • Lay the exposed top edge of the adhesive onto the frame using the lip as a guide for alignment.
  • Gently press down on the top corners to secure the adhesive.

Slowly apply the remaining adhesive to the frame, pressing firmly and removing the clear liner as you peel.

  • Ensure a smooth application process by maintaining even pressure.
  • Pull the liner away from the adhesive as it is applied.

Press adhesive firmly onto using a spudger.

Peel up the large colored liner from its cutout near the top edge.

  • If adhesive starts peeling with liner, ensure all has been pushed into place with a spudger.
  • If it persists, hold down liner with the point of your spudger as you continue.

Step 48 | Remove any liners from the back glass

Inspect your new back glass for protective liners and tape on the underside.

  • Check carefully as different pieces may be located in various spots.
  • Remove all liners from the back glass, focusing on front camera cutouts and bottom edge.
  • Liners can often be identified by their pull tabs.

Step 49 | Prop up the back glass

Position the suction handle on the back glass with the cable close to its connector.

  • For added stability, place the suction handle near the left side of your phone.
  • (As an alternative) Support the back glass with a sturdy object like a stack of books.

Step 50 | Reconnect the back glass and battery

Press down firmly to connect the back glass and battery press connectors.

  • For wider connectors like the back glass one, first press down on a short side until it clicks into place, then repeat on the other side.
  • Avoid pressing in the middle.
  • Pressing in a misaligned connector can cause permanent damage to the pins.

Install Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver and secure cover with two 2.3mm-long screws.

Use a spudger to firmly press the adhesive onto the frame.

  • Power on your device and test all functions.
  • If issues arise, try basic troubleshooting methods.
  • Remember to power down completely before continuing work.

Step 54 | Remove the remaining liners

Check that adhesive is fully seated before removing liners.

  • Remove liners from back glass adhesive with a spudger.
  • If adhesive peels up, reposition it and hold down with spudger point as you remove liners.

Step 55 | Install the back glass

Flip the back glass onto the frame and press it firmly into place.

  • Hold your phone up and squeeze firmly around the perimeter to strengthen the bond.
  • Alternatively, stack books on the back glass or use screen vise clamps for a stronger bond.
