Asus Zenfone Max M2 Screen Replacement

Before attempting repairs, ensure you have the correct tools and a replacement screen in hand to avoid any damage or complications.

  • Verify your Asus Zenfone Max M2's symptoms: lines on the screen or non-responsive touch.
  • Check the tools list and acquire all necessary components, including a replacement screen.

Step 1 | Remove back cover

Power down the device to prevent data loss and damage.

  • Remove the SIM card tray.
  • Careful: Pry open the back cover starting at the SIM card slot, using a plastic pick.

  • Work your way around the phone to detach the back cover.

Step 2 | Remove screws for top cross-bracket

Remove any adhesive tape covering the fingerprint sensor.

  • Lift up the fingerprint sensor.
  • Use a screwdriver to remove the three screws securing the bracket underneath.

Step 3 | Remove hardware below battery

Remove the 7 screws securing the speaker plastic, then pry it up.

  • Disconnect the antenna cable
  • Disconnect the interconnect cable near the battery

Be careful with the cables to avoid damage or short circuits.

  • Remove the remaining screws holding the daughterboard, then remove it as shown
  • Disconnect the connectors underneath the top bracket

Step 4 | Remove broken screen

Apply suction cups to pull back on broken screen.

  • If the screen is heavily cracked, cover it with tape to improve suction cup grip and prevent glass shards from falling off.
  • The screen is secured by tape; be gentle when detaching.

Reinstall the back cover for added leverage if necessary.

  • During reassembly, test the new screen before applying adhesive:
    • Reconnect display cables and power on your phone to ensure proper function.
    • Power off your phone before continuing with reassembly.

Step 5 | Install 3M 9448A tape

Scrape off old adhesive residue from phone's front using a spudger.

  • Set aside the old screen.
  • Apply 3M 9448A tape to inside edge, covering as much surface area as possible.

Do not touch tape with fingers, as this will compromise adhesive strength.

  • During reassembly, use a pair of tweezers to install new adhesive.
  • Remove front backing and install new screen.

Step 6 | Attach new screen

Remove all packaging from the new screen.

  • Thread the ribbon cable through the slot in the phone.
  • Align and attach the new screen to the tape, using light pressure for secure adhesion.
  • Flip the phone over.

Step 7 | Connect the new screen

Reinsert the charging circuit board.

  • Reconnect the ribbon cable that spans the battery.
  • Ensure the screen is securely connected to the phone's body.

Step 8 | Reassemble

  • Snap the bottom plastic speaker back into place, then screw it in.
  • Reattach the top cross-bracket and fingerprint sensor, securing with a screw.
  • Reinstall the back cover and SIM card tray.

Step 9 | Enjoy your new screen!

Remove the plastic film from your new screen.

  • Verify all phone functions are operational.
  • Perform a thorough testing of the new screen.
