Asus Zenfone 9 USB-C Charging Port Replacement

Faulty or damaged charging port may cause erratic charging behavior.

  • Test with multiple chargers and cables to isolate the issue.
  • Inspect the USB-C port for any signs of physical damage, corrosion, or debris.

Step 1 | Remove SIM card tray

Be cautious when applying heat to avoid damage to internal components.

  • Use an iOpener or heat gun to soften the adhesive around the back cover's edges.
  • Insert an opening pick or guitar pick into the gap and gently pry along the edge.

If initial attempts fail, try using a thinner pick or a sharp instrument, starting from the bottom edge to minimize damage risk.

Step 3 | Remove plastic cover

  • Pop off the plastic cover using a spudger, opening pick, or guitar pick.

Remove the six screws marked with a highlighter using a 000 Philips bit.

Careful handling is required as one of the screws has a protective sticker.

Do not force the sticker — it can be easily removed with a sharp instrument.

  • Pry out the speaker using your finger, an opening pick, or guitar pick.

Step 5 | Loosen circuit board and SIM card reader

Use a spudger, opening pick, or guitar pick to gently pry out the circuit board.

Do not bend or fold any cables if they are still connected; this will cause damage.

  • The circuit board also contains the SIM card reader.
  • It is not necessary to disconnect the two flat cables from the main board.

Step 6 | Remove old USB-C connector cable

Use a spudger to disconnect the old USB-C connector from the main board.

Careful: This requires some force, so go slowly.

  • Pull back firmly on the "KB" side of the flat cable to release the adhesive holding it in place.
  • The USB-C port will come loose and can be removed from the phone case along with the flat cable.

Remove the blue plastic covering from the new cable's adhesive.

  • Align the cable with its 'KB' marked side facing down, towards the phone's bottom.
  • The new port should fit where the old one was removed.
  • The red gasket will create a tight seal upon insertion.

  • The cable is keyed to the gray plastic peg seen in the second photo.
  • Ensure the new port's screw holes align perfectly with the circuit board.
  • Press the cable down over the peg, securing it with adhesive.
  • Reconnect the 'MB' side of the cable to its corresponding port on the main board.
