Asus Zenfone 5 Power and Volume Flex Cable Replacement

This guide teaches you how to swap out the power and volume flex cable on an Asus Zenfone 5.

  • This tutorial focuses on replacing the flex cable, not the buttons themselves, as replacing the buttons is relatively straightforward.

Step 1 | Back Cover

  • Remove the entire back cover.
  • Use a plastic opening tool to assist in removal, if available.
  • (Note: If no plastic opening tool is available, use an alternative tool like a cosmetic tweezer, but be aware that it may leave minor cosmetic damage.)

Step 2 | Midframe

Remove 3 shorter and 10 longer Phillips #00 screws.

One longer screw is missing; proceed without it.

  • Lift the midframe gently using your fingers or a plastic tool.
  • Be cautious of possible adhesive beneath; continue lifting slowly and steadily.

Step 3 | Motherboard

Locate and identify the Flex Cable connector, Power and Volume Button Flex Cable, and Battery Power connector.

First, disconnect the power line by gently lifting the Battery Power connector up to prevent accidental power-on.

  • Use a spudger to make it easier to lift the Battery Power connector.
  • Gently pull the Flex Cable connector off from its port.
  • Utilize a pair of tweezers to aid in removing the Flex Cable connector.

Step 4 | Flex Cable

Remove the Flex Cable.

  • Discard the old Flex Cable and replace it with the new one.
  • Take the sticker for securing the adhesive off from the new Flex Cable.
  • Carefully place the sticker on the new Flex Cable
