Asus ZenFone 5 Front Camera Replacement

Internal damage to the front-facing camera may be necessary for repair and can result in a replacement requirement.

  • The front-facing camera is situated on top of the screen, facing outward.
  • Common issues include:
    • Black screen displays
    • Blurred photos
  • A faulty or disconnected cable can also cause these symptoms.

Step 1 | Battery

When heating the iOpener, use caution — risk of burns.

  • Heat the iOpener in the microwave for 30 seconds.
  • Hold the iOpener by the sides to prevent bodily harm.

Apply iOpener to one side of the phone for approximately 10-15 minutes.

  • Allow the iOpener to cool completely before proceeding.
  • Reheat and reapply the iOpener to the other side of the phone.

Slide a jimmy along the edges to break adhesive.

  • Use opening picks and an ESD-safe tool to pry off the back cover.
  • Do not use metal tools as this exposes the battery and poses a puncture risk.

  • The back cover has six tabs on each side that may require force to separate.
  • Repeat heating and prying until the back cover is fully removed.

Remove the top cover plate by first removing its screws, using a #00 Phillips head and unscrewing the six 3.175mm screws.

  • Use the spudger to release the clasps along the edge of the top plate.

Locate and disconnect the press fit connector situated near the top-right corner of the battery.

  • The battery should now be free from the motherboard.

Remove the five Phillips #00 3.96mm screws from the bottom plate using a screwdriver.

  • Pry the bottom plate off with a spudger.

Release the battery by pulling both black tabs at the bottom.

  • Pull gently to remove the battery from its socket.

Step 8 | Front Camera

Peel off the silver tape from about halfway to the right of the audio jack.

  • Use tweezers to disconnect the press fit connector underneath the tape, located above the silver plate.
  • Lift up gently until the camera and connector are removed.
