ASUS ZENFONE 3 Zoom Fingerprint Scanner Replacement

To replace the fingerprint scanner on your Zenfone 3, follow these steps:

  • You will need a Torx T2 screwdriver, a Phillips #00 screwdriver, tweezers, and a prying tool.
  • This replacement is required if the scanner fails to activate or provides inaccurate fingerprint readings.

Step 1 | Battery

Use tweezers to gently remove the SIM card tray.

Set the removed tray aside for reinstallation later.

Remove the two 2mm screws with a Torx T2 screwdriver.

Insert a prying tool between the screen and metal backing at the bottom of the phone.

  • The thin film connecting the pieces will remain intact; do not attempt to remove it.
  • Fold the two pieces apart with the inside facing up.

Use a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the two 3mm screws securing the silver band at the top of the battery.

  • Remove the silver band by unscrewing these two screws.

Remove the silver tape by peeling it back.

Disconnect the battery connections.

Pry the battery carefully, as the underside is adhered.

  • Pry and remove the battery.
  • Gently lift the battery off the adhesive on its underside.

Step 8 | Fingerprint Scanner

Unplug the wire connecting the two main components.

  • Separate the two halves of the phone.

Use the plastic opening tool to carefully pry out the fingerprint scanner.
