Asus ZenFone 2 Laser ZE550KL Display Replacement

This repair guide is for the ZenFone 2 Laser 5", model number ZE550KL.

Step 1 | SIM and battery removal

Remove the back cover.

Disconnect the battery.
Remove the SIM card and micro SD card.

Step 2 | Remove the screws

Remove the 15 screws.

Step 3 | Internal back cover

Use opening picks to carefully remove the plastic back, taking care not to damage the retaining clips.

Step 4 | Flat cable display

Disconnect the two flat cables from their connectors.

Lift up the white bracket to access the cables.
Remove the camera cable.

Step 5 | Rear speaker

Use a spudger to carefully pry off the rear speaker.

Step 6 | Motherboard

Begin by carefully lifting the motherboard from the base of the device.

Step 7 | Frame Assembly

Step 8 | Touchscreen driver

Disconnect the touchscreen driver

Press and hold the Power button for at least 10 seconds.
Locate the touchscreen connector on the logic board.
Use a screwdriver to carefully release the connector lock.
Gently lift the connector from its socket.

Step 9 | Screen removal

Apply heat to the screen using a hair dryer, heat gun, or iOpener.
The screen should now detach from the phone's frame.

Step 10 | Preparation of the new screen

Use a solvent to remove any remaining adhesive from the frame's edge.

Clean the area thoroughly with a soft cloth.
Reattach the display securely, ensuring it is evenly aligned.

Step 11 | Screen adhesive

Apply double-sided adhesive to the frame.

Step 12 | New screen

Remove and replace the dust gasket of the front camera, ensuring proper alignment.

Insert the new screen into its designated position, aligning with the specific grooves using a flat tool.

Step 13 | Reassembly

Reinstall the logic board into its original position.
