Asus ZenFone 2 Laser Display Replacement

Screen damage may cause further harm to internal components.

  • Raise the Zenfone 2 Laser with a soft cloth under its base.
  • Remove any SIM card and/or SD card from their respective slots.

Step 1 | Remove back cover

Do not bend the case excessively.

  • Insert a spudger or your fingernail into the slit on the rear case's right side to pry apart the phone and case.
  • Release any remaining plastic clips, if present.

Step 2 | Remove SIM card and SD card

Remove the SIM card and (if installed)SD card.

Step 3 | Remove Battery

Be extremely careful when handling the battery as physical damage can cause an explosion.

  • Use a spudger to carefully remove the battery from near the bottom of the phone.

  • Remove all 12 Phillips head screws
  • Note that some screws may not be visible in photos.

  • Check the phone's bottom for additional screws, totaling 12.

Step 5 | Remove plastic covering

Take out the screws.

  • Remove the plastic covering that comes off easily.
  • If a rubber camera piece falls out, put it back in its square slot where the rear camera sits.

Step 6 | Remove Display Flex Cables

Careful handling required to avoid damaging the Main Board.

  • Open the white "door" using a spudger.
  • Use tweezers to pull out the connector.

If the Main Board is damaged, consider replacing the entire phone as repair may be impractical.

Step 7 | Remove Loudspeaker

Remove the loudspeaker using a spudger.

Be cautious of residual adhesive holding it in place.

Step 8 | Move Vibration Motor

Remove the vibration motor from its plastic housing.

Do not attempt to pull the vibration motor off the logic board — it is soldered in place.

Step 9 | Remove Logic Board

Locate and push aside one plastic clip.

  • Grasp the logic board, including the extension to the micro-USB port, firmly.
  • Pull the logic board out from its housing.

Step 10 | Plastic Bezel Removal

Check if your new display includes a plastic bezel. If yes, proceed to transfer components. Otherwise, continue with repair instructions.

Step 11 | Remove Glass Display

Insert an iSesamo or similar spudger into the top right corner of the display, sliding it between the glass and plastic bezel.

Be cautious when inserting the spudger due to a cable connecting the display to the logic board located near the ear speaker and rear camera hole.

  • Use a guitar pic to hold the spudger's place once inserted.

A generous amount of adhesive is present along the top edge of the display.

Step 12 | Continue Removing Glass Display

Insert the spudger (or iSesamo) into the display, moving it in a sawing motion along the right side.

Ensure the tool is placed under the LCD, not inside it.

  • Reference the provided picture to avoid damaging the display as shown.
  • Position guitar pics underneath the LCD once you have corrected your approach.

Step 13 | Continue Removing Glass Display

Position your tool under the LCD, as shown in the example.

  • Refer to the illustration of the tool placement under the LCD.
  • Avoid placing tools above the LCD, as indicated by the yellow arrow.

Step 14 | Continue Removing Glass Display

Separate the glass display with LCD from the plastic frame.

  • The top area has a lot of adhesive to be removed.
  • Be cautious, as there is less adhesive on the sides and bottom.

Make sure the top flex cable passes through its hole before separating the display.

Step 15 | Remove Glass Display

Separate the glass display with LCD from the plastic frame.

  • Prebend the flex cables before installing the new display to ensure proper fitment.
  • The process should be familiar if you've previously repaired an iPhone 4/4s screen.
