ASUS PadFone X Motherboard Replacement

This guide will walk you through the replacement process of your device's Motherboard.

  • Use a blue plastic opening tool to pry the back cover from the phone, starting at the crease between the back cover and the phone.
  • Work your way around the phone, loosening the entire back cover.

  • Remove the 13 3.6mm screws with a Torx T5 bit from the screwdriver.

Insert the blue plastic opening tool into the crease between the mid-frame and the phone, prying it upwards.

  • Work your way around the phone in a methodical manner until the entire back cover is loose.
  • Remove the mid-frame once it's separated from the phone.

Do not apply excessive force when disconnecting the battery cable.

  • Use a plastic blue opening tool to gently release the battery cable.
  • Be cautious not to damage the motherboard connector.

Apply gentle pressure with the blue plastic opening tool to pry the battery pack from the phone.

  • Pry along the edge away from the motherboard, taking care not to damage it.
  • The battery pack is secured by double-sided tape; apply sufficient force when prying out the battery.

Disconnect the vibration motor connector from the motherboard using a spudger.

Apply gentle force only when prying the camera connector from its socket on the motherboard

  • Use a blue plastic opening tool to pry up the camera connector.
  • Avoid applying excessive force, which may damage the connector.

Use tweezers to carefully pry out the rear camera from the Padfone X.

Be cautious, as the camera is lightly glued to the motherboard — you may need to use a plastic opening tool to loosen the adhesive under the camera.

Be careful when handling sharp edges.

  • Insert the tip of a flat head screwdriver between each clip and the panel.
  • Gently push down until the clip is slightly bent away from the panel.

Repeat this process for all clips holding the panel in place.

  • Once all clips are bent, carefully remove the panel.

  • Use the blue plastic opening tool to pry up the first connector.
  • To disconnect the second connector, lift its lock and then pull it outward.

  • Insert the blue plastic opening tool under the motherboard, then gently pry upward.
  • Continue to work your way around until the motherboard is free.

Exercise extreme care when removing the black locking mechanism, as it is fragile.

  • Flip the motherboard over to access the front facing camera.
  • Using tweezers, carefully remove the black locking mechanism.

Hold the tweezers and carefully grasp the connector.

Pull the connector away from the camera with a gentle rocking motion using the tweezers.
