ASUS PadFone X Front Facing Camera Replacement

Replacing the front camera will restore your device's photo-taking capabilities.

Step 1 | Motherboard

Insert the blue plastic opening tool tip into the crease between the back cover and the phone.

  • Pry the back cover upwards.
  • Work your way around the phone, repeating the process until the entire back cover is loose.

Use the Torx T5 bit to remove the thirteen 3.6 mm screws.

Insert the blue plastic opening tool into the crease between the mid-frame and the phone.

  • Pry it upwards to loosen the back cover.
  • Work your way around the phone until the entire back cover is loose.
  • Remove the mid-frame after loosening the back cover.

Excessive force can damage the connector.

  • Use a plastic blue plastic opening tool to disconnect the battery cable from the motherboard.
  • Avoid applying too much pressure, as this may cause permanent damage.

Apply caution when removing the battery pack to avoid damaging the motherboard.

  • Use a blue plastic opening tool to pry the battery pack away from the phone.
  • Pry along the edge, moving away from the motherboard.
  • The battery pack is secured with double-sided tape, so apply firm pressure to release it.

Use a spudger to carefully pry the vibration motor connector away from the motherboard.

Excessive force may damage the connector.

  • Use a blue plastic opening tool to gently pry the camera connector up from its socket on the motherboard.

  • Use tweezers to carefully remove the rear camera from the Padfone X.
  • The camera may be lightly glued to the motherboard, requiring a plastic opening tool to loosen the adhesive.

Insert the flat head screwdriver tip between the panel and metal clip, then gently push down until the clip is slightly bent.

  • Repeat for all clips holding the panel in place.
  • Bent clips, remove the panel.

  • Use a blue plastic opening tool to pry the first connector upward.
  • To disconnect the second connector, lift the lock and pull it outward.

Insert the blue plastic opening tool under the motherboard, then gently pry it up.

  • Pry at one point, then move to another, working your way around the board until it's free.

Careful handling required due to fragile components.

  • Flip the motherboard over to access the front facing camera.
  • Using tweezers, gently remove the black locking mechanism.

Remove the camera by gently pulling on the connector with tweezers.
