Samsung Galaxy S21 Rear Camera Replacement

Discharge the battery below 25% before disassembling your phone to prevent thermal events and ensure safety.

  • Determine which camera components you want to replace: the ultrawide or wide-telephoto, or both.
  • Acquire replacement adhesive for a successful repair.

Step 1 | Heat the bottom edge

Step 1 image

Power down your device completely.

  • Apply an iOpener to the back cover's bottom edge for two minutes.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate — but be cautious not to overheat the phone:
    • The display is prone to heat damage.
    • The internal battery may also be affected.
    • The plastic back cover can warp.

Step 2 | Separate the bottom adhesive

Step 2 image

Thumbnail 3

Apply a suction cup to the back of the phone, centered at the bottom edge.

Use strong, steady force to create a gap between the back cover and the frame, be cautious of difficulty due to age.

  • Insert an opening pick into the gap up to 5 mm only, as excess insertion may damage internal components.

Step 3 | Slice the bottom adhesive

Step 3 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Slide the pick back and forth along the bottom edge to cut through the adhesive.

Make sure not to remove the pick, as this will allow the adhesive to reseal.

Step 4 | Heat the left edge

Step 4 image

Apply heat from an iOpener to the left edge of the back cover for 2 minutes.

Step 5 | Separate the left adhesive

Do not cut the adhesive past the camera shell

  • Slide a precision opening pick along the left edge towards the bottom left corner.
  • Stop cutting when you reach the area where the camera shell meets the back cover to avoid damaging the plastic.
  • Leave the opening pick in place to prevent the adhesive from resealing.

Step 7 | Heat the right edge

Step 7 image

Apply a iOpener to the right edge of the back cover and heat it for 2 minutes.

Step 8 | Separate the right adhesive
