Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra Front-Facing Camera Module Replacement

Careful handling is crucial when removing the front-facing camera module as it may be damaged or destroyed during removal.

  • Replace the front-facing camera module for your Galaxy S20 Ultra using this guide.
  • Purchase replacement adhesive for successful reassembly.

Step 1 | Heat the bottom edge

Step 1 image

Unplug your phone and power it off.

Apply heat carefully to avoid damaging the display and internal battery.

  • Use an iOpener on the back cover's bottom edge for two minutes.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate with caution.

Step 2 | Separate the bottom edge adhesive

Step 2 image

Thumbnail 3

Apply a suction cup to the phone's back, centered near the bottom.

  • For badly cracked covers, use clear packing tape for better adhesion.
  • Alternatively, apply strong tape or superglue the suction cup in place.

Avoid excessive force with the pick to prevent back cover cracking.

  • Pull on the suction cup with steady force to create a gap between the cover and frame.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap once it's open.

Due to tight tolerances, multiple attempts may be needed for success:

  • Reheat with the iOpener and try again if necessary.
  • Apply more heat if creating a gap is difficult.

Step 3 | Slice the adhesive

Step 3 image

Slide the pick back and forth along the bottom edge to slice through the adhesive.

Do not attempt to cut near corners where glass is curved, risk of cracking the glass panel.

  • Leave the pick in the seam after slicing to prevent resealing of the adhesive.

Step 4 | Heat the left edge

Step 4 image

Apply iOpener to left edge of back cover and heat for 2 minutes.

Step 5 | Separate the left edge adhesive

Apply a suction cup to the left edge of the phone's back.

  • Pull on the suction cup with strong, steady force until a gap forms between the back cover and frame.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap, aiming for the curved edge. The tip should be visible underneath the glass.

Due to tight tolerances, creating the gap may take multiple attempts.

  • If needed, reapply heat and try again.
  • Alternatively, add a few drops of high concentration (over 90%) isopropyl alcohol into the seam for added adhesive loosening.

Avoid applying excessive force with the pick to prevent cracking the back cover glass.

Step 6

Careful handling is required when separating the back cover's adhesive.

  • Insert a pick under the center of the left edge of the back cover.
  • Slowly slide the pick towards the top to separate the adhesive.

Be cautious around the ridge surrounding the volume and power buttons, as it may crack the glass if not handled carefully.

  • Leave a pick under the left edge of the glass near the top to prevent resealing.

Step 9 | Heat the right edge

Step 9 image

Avoid overheating the device — thermal shock can cause permanent damage.

  • Apply a heated iOpener to the right edge of the back cover for two minutes.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but keep an eye on temperatures to prevent overheat.

Step 10 | Separate the right edge adhesive

Insert a pick at the right edge of the back cover, underneath its center.

  • Gradually slide the pick towards the top to separate the adhesive.
  • Release may occur at the bottom edge; set aside any picks released, as this edge won't reseal further.

Step 13 | Heat the top edge

Step 13 image

Heat a iOpener and apply it to the top edge of the back cover for 2 minutes.

Step 14 | Separate the top edge adhesive

Step 14 image
