Let the phone's battery drain below 25% before starting this repair, as a charged lithium-ion battery may catch fire if damaged.

  • Unplug all cables and completely power off the phone.
  • Press and hold the power and volume down buttons simultaneously to bring up the shutdown menu.

Step 2 | Heat the right edge

Step 2 image

Avoid overheating the phone, as the display, internal battery, and plastic back can be damaged.

  • Apply a preheated iOpener to the right edge of the back cover for two minutes.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer on low heat, but keep an eye on temperature to avoid overheating the phone's components.

Step 3

Step 3 image

Do not go deeper than 4mm from the edge apart from a small area at the bottom.

Adhesive secures the back cover around the perimeter and has an additional layer towards the bottom.
