iPhone 6 Plus Logic Board Replacement

This document provides instructions for substituting the iPhone 6s Plus logic board.

  • Due to a factory pairing process, the iPhone's logic board and Touch ID sensor function as a matched set; substituting the logic board necessitates a compatible home button, also correctly paired to the new logic board, to maintain Touch ID functionality.

Step 1 | Pentalobe Screws

Step 1 image
Begin the process by ensuring the 1.5mm Allen wrench is used to loosen the retaining screw securing the 3.2V capacitor, observing caution to prevent electrostatic discharge damage to the component.
To prevent a potential fire or explosion hazard from the lithium-ion battery, ensure its charge level is less than 25% prior to beginning any disassembly procedures on your iPhone; a fully charged battery poses a significant risk of ignition if damaged.
To prevent electrical shock or damage, ensure the iPhone is completely de-energized prior to starting the repair process.
Using a Pentalobe screwdriver, detach the two screws measuring 3.6 mm, which are located adjacent to the Lightning connector.

Step 2 | Anti-Clamp instructions

Step 2 image

Thumbnail 3
Using a 5/32-inch hex key, carefully loosen the four retaining screws securing the fan assembly—ensure you do not overtighten—and gently slide the fan unit outward from the motor housing, observing the 1.25-inch clearance required to prevent damage to the wiring harness.
To simplify the opening process, the following two steps utilize the Anti-Clamp tool, a custom-designed aid; if you do not have this tool, proceed to the instructions three steps further down.
Refer to the included guide for detailed procedures regarding the Anti-Clamp's operation.
To release the Anti-Clamp's arms, move the blue handle in a rearward direction.
Position the arms so they clear the left or right side of the iPhone, then move them into place.
Affix two suction cups to the iPhone's front and back surfaces, placing them close to the lower edge and directly over the home button.
Apply vacuum to the targeted surface by pressing the cups firmly against each other.
To improve the Anti-Clamp's adherence if the iPhone's exterior feels excessively smooth, apply adhesive tape to the device's surface.

Step 3

Step 3 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3
Using a 5/32-inch hex key, carefully tighten the three retaining screws securing the motor assembly to the housing, ensuring each is snug but not over-torqued to prevent damage; observe polarity markings during reinstallation to avoid incorrect wiring, and be aware that the motor weighs 1.75 pounds.
To secure the arms, advance the blue handle in the direction indicated.
Rotate the handle fully, completing a 360-degree turn, observing for the initial expansion of the cups.
Maintain parallel positioning of the suction cups; should misalignment occur, gently release the suction cups' grip and reposition the arms.
Once sufficient space is created by the Anti-Clamp, use a prying tool or opening pick to gain access beneath the display panel.
To ensure adequate clearance, reposition the handle by 90 degrees.
Allow a maximum 90-degree rotation per adjustment, pausing several seconds after each turn to enable the Anti-Clamp feature and allow sufficient time for settling.

Step 4 | Front Panel Assembly

Step 4 image
Using a 5/32-inch hex key, carefully tighten the three mounting screws securing the fan assembly to the motor housing, ensuring each is snug but not over-tightened to avoid damaging the plastic threads; observe a torque limit of 3 in-lbs per screw.
Carefully employ a suction cup to raise the front panel.
Securely affix a suction cup to the display surface, positioning it directly over the home button area.
Ensure a leakproof connection by firmly applying the cup against the screen's surface.
To facilitate suction cup attachment when the display has severe cracking, apply a sheet of clear packing tape across the damaged area; as an alternative, a robust adhesive tape can be used directly. Should neither of these methods prove effective, secure the suction cup to the screen using superglue.

Step 5

Step 5 image
Using a 5/32-inch hex key, carefully tighten the three retaining screws securing the fan assembly to the motor housing, ensuring each is snug but not over-torqued to prevent damage; observe polarity markings during reinstallation.
Using one hand to secure the iPhone, lift the suction cup vertically to create a small gap between the front panel and the rear enclosure.
Exercise caution and use steady, even pressure when installing the display assembly, as its fit is considerably more snug than typical device components.
Carefully separate the rear case from the display assembly by gently levering it downwards with a plastic opening tool, maintaining upward traction on the display with the suction cup.
To release the front panel assembly from the rear case, carefully detach the multiple retaining clips, potentially employing both a suction cup and a plastic opening tool to facilitate separation.
