To start the repair, ensure the iPhone's battery has a charge level of less than 25%; a fully charged lithium-ion battery poses a fire or explosion risk if damaged.
Ensure the iPhone is completely de-energized prior to commencing the teardown process.
The iPhone 4's back cover is secured with either two #000 Phillips screws or Apple's 5-Point 'Pentalobe' screws—refer to the second image to identify the screw type present. Confirm you possess the appropriate screwdriver to avoid damage during removal.
Using either a Pentalobe or Phillips #000 screwdriver, detach the two screws measuring 3.6 mm located adjacent to the dock connector.
To prevent damage, ensure the Pentalobe driver is fully engaged before turning when removing those screws.

Apply pressure to the rear panel, directing it upwards, until it shifts approximately 2 millimeters.

Step 3

Step 3 image
To release the rear panel, either gently separate it from the iPhone casing by applying pressure with your fingers or secure a Small Suction Cup to the panel and lift.
Exercise caution to prevent harm to the plastic clips affixed to the rear panel.
Before attaching a replacement rear panel, peel away the adhesive backing from the protective plastic covering the camera lens’s interior surface, and also remove the sticker adhered to the large black area positioned close to the lens.

Step 4 | Battery

Step 4 image
Using a Phillips screwdriver, detach the battery connector from the logic board by unscrewing the single 2.5 mm screw that holds it in place.
Certain models incorporate a second screw; this secures the contact pad situated directly above the screw highlighted in red within the accompanying image.

Step 5

Step 5 image
Carefully lift the battery connector away from its corresponding socket on the logic board, employing a plastic opening tool to avoid damage.
To avoid connector damage, release the bracket by gently separating it from the top and bottom surfaces; side access is limited.
Exercise extreme caution when releasing the battery connector, ensuring you apply force only to the connector itself, as applying pressure to the logic board socket risks irreparable damage.
Carefully detach the metal clip, which secures the antenna connector.

  1. Carefully extract the battery from the iPhone by utilizing the provided transparent plastic tab to apply gentle upward force.
Should the battery retaining tab fracture prior to separation, introduce a small quantity of isopropyl alcohol with a concentration exceeding 90% beneath the battery's edge. Allow approximately one minute for the alcohol to dissolve the adhesive bond. Then, gently insert a spudger between the battery and the device to disengage the adhesive.
To avoid damage, do not attempt to force the battery free; instead, if the adhesive remains strong, add additional drops of alcohol to soften it. Ensure the pry tool does not puncture or bend the battery during removal.
To prevent damage, ensure any residual alcohol solution is completely removed by wiping with a clean cloth or by permitting full evaporation prior to battery replacement.
Carefully detach the protective plastic packaging from the new battery by gently separating it from the ribbon cable.
Ensure the red contact clip is correctly situated adjacent to the battery connector prior to reattaching the battery connector.
To prevent potential wireless interference stemming from oils, thoroughly remove any residue from metal surfaces that will touch each other during reassembly, using a cleaning agent like Windex.
Following reassembly, execute a complete system reset to proactively avoid potential problems and streamline any subsequent diagnostic procedures.

Use a Phillips head screwdriver, size 1.2 millimeters.
Use a Phillips head screwdriver, size 1.6 mm.
  • Carefully detach the flexible steel cover protecting the dock connector cable inside the iPhone.
  • To prevent wireless interference, thoroughly remove any oils or residue from all surfaces where the dock connector cable cover makes contact with other metal parts, using a cleaning agent like Windex.

Carefully pry the speaker enclosure assembly from the device housing with a plastic tool, exercising caution to avoid bending or breaking the Wi-Fi antenna’s EMI fingers.
Carefully detach the speaker enclosure assembly.
Ensure the fasteners securing the speaker enclosure assembly are properly positioned prior to tightening.Ensure the Wi-Fi grounding fingers are positioned beneath the edge of the iPhone’s metal enclosure, referencing the visual guide in the third image for correct placement.
Ensure all components are correctly oriented and aligned, maintaining original positions and measurements, and use the specified tools to avoid damage, adhering to all safety warnings regarding part names. To prevent wireless interference, thoroughly remove any oils from the metal contact areas where the Wi-Fi antenna grounding fingers meet the iPhone case, using a de-greaser like Windex or isopropyl alcohol.

Step 13 | Cellular Antenna

Step 13 image
Detach the antenna from the speaker housing by unscrewing the two Phillips head screws that hold it in place.

Carefully separate the antenna from the speaker enclosure by sliding the edge of a plastic opening tool between the antenna and the enclosure, ensuring the tool is positioned beneath the plastic mounting, and avoiding the metal plate. Begin this separation process close to where the cellular antenna cable connects.
Carefully detach the cellular antenna from the speaker enclosure, avoiding damage to the gold bracket secured to its edge.
Disconnect and detach the cellular antenna.
Carefully connect the replacement cellular antenna, ensuring proper alignment and secure fastening to maintain signal integrity.Prior to securing the antenna, position the gold bracket so it covers the speaker enclosure's ear.
