iPhone 4 Headphone Jack & Volume Control Cable Replacement

Installing a replacement headphone jack includes the necessary electronic parts to restore functionality to the silent switch and volume buttons.

  • Carefully detach the microphone and sleep button cable by gently separating it from the top assembly.
  • Carefully detach the front camera cable by applying prying force from the upper edge.

Using the appropriate tool, detach the 4.8 mm standoff screw located close to the headphone jack.
To detach standoff screws, utilize a standoff screwdriver or a compatible bit.
If a specialized tool isn't available, a small flathead screwdriver can be carefully employed; however, exercise heightened vigilance to prevent slippage and potential harm to nearby parts.
To ensure proper alignment, the Wi-Fi shield, previously detached in step 13, must be positioned at the correct height using this standoff during reassembly; failure to adequately tighten the standoff will prevent the rear cover from sliding into place in step 2 because the shield will protrude beyond the frame's surface, and the shield's exterior should be level with the headphone jack.
To correctly reattach the motherboard, position its perimeter so it rests beneath the designated standoff, as this is necessary for proper screw alignment.
Confirm the tiny rubber spacer, which is affixed to the motherboard's upper surface, is correctly positioned during reassembly.
Absence of this component creates a risk of damage to the surrounding ribbon cables on the motherboard.

Following this, meticulously remove any remaining adhesive from the ribbon cable area located inside the bottom volume button bracket.
