Create a Micro-SIM to SIM Adapter

To enable use of an iPhone 4 Micro-SIM within an iPhone 2G or iPhone 3GS, this procedure details how to create an adapter from the existing SIM card; be aware that this conversion renders the original SIM card unusable.
Because a replacement SIM card is included with new iPhone 4 purchases and the previous SIM is rendered inactive during the activation process, the original SIM card becomes unusable.

Step 1 | Create a Micro-SIM to SIM Adapter

Assemble the necessary tools and components, including [list all tools and parts mentioned elsewhere in the guide].
Employ an XACTO knife with a suitable work surface, ideally a self-healing cutting mat.
Use a number two pencil.
A straightened paperclip or the provided SIM-card removal tool can be used.

Using the SIM eject tool, extract the SIM card from every iPhone.
The iPhone 4's SIM card tray is located on the right-hand side of the device.
Locate the SIM card tray, which is situated on the upper edge of all older iPhone models.

Carefully use a pencil to outline the dimensions of the Micro-SIM card onto the surface of the existing SIM card.
Carefully align the wires with their corresponding counterparts situated underneath.

Employ an XACTO Knife and carefully incise along the traced guideline.
To prevent the knife from slipping while cutting, initially apply gentle pressure to create a shallow guiding groove in the plastic. After establishing this groove, increase the force to complete the cut. Alternatively, drilling five small pilot holes with a fine drill bit at each corner will also serve to guide the knife.
For a precise score line on the SIM card, apply heat to the Exacto knife tip using a small torch or cigarette lighter; repeated short bursts of heat may be necessary because the blade cools rapidly.
To finalize the SIM card slot creation, turn the card over; the previously cut notch’s shape should be visible on its reverse side, allowing for a more precise completion of the slot by cutting from this underside.
Carefully extract the SIM card portion that was previously removed.

Carefully slide the Micro-SIM Card into the prepared opening within the SIM card holder.
To accommodate a Micro-SIM that is not initially compatible, carefully remove additional plastic material from the opening using the knife.
To compensate for an oversized opening, secure the Micro-SIM card within the slot by applying a piece of tape to its rear surface—the side lacking gold contacts—and then carefully remove any protruding tape with the knife.
To ensure the Micro-SIM remains securely in place and avoids obstruction during removal, consider applying tape regardless of whether the hole's dimensions are precisely correct.
