This document provides instructions for the removal and replacement of the front camera module on an iPhone 14.
The creation of this guide was based on the A2882 (international) iPhone 14 variant; while the steps remain generally applicable to other models, minor visual differences may be observed.
The front-facing camera and Face ID components are integrated into a single assembly, with the sensors permanently linked to the device's logic board.Important considerations follow.Replacing this component will disable the Face ID functionality.
While this repair will resolve issues with the front-facing camera, Face ID functionality can only be restored by Apple or an Apple-certified technician on iOS 17.6 and earlier versions; iOS 18 and later versions allow for recalibration of genuine replacement cameras using Apple's Repair Assistant.
To facilitate separation, apply heat to the left side of the iPhone's enclosure, ensuring the rear glass reaches a temperature just beyond comfortable touch.
A fragile wiring harness is situated on the device's right side, proximate to the volume increase button.Avoid inserting any tools into this area to prevent potential harm to the specified cable.Damage to the cable may occur if a tool is inserted in the described location.
Apply heat to the iPhone's right-hand side, specifically the area bordering the volume controls, until the temperature of the rear glass reaches a point just beyond comfortable touch. The targeted area for heating is the right edge of the iPhone, which is identifiable by the presence of the volume buttons.Elevating the rear glass temperature to a level where it becomes noticeably uncomfortable to the touch is the desired outcome of the heating process.
Apply warmth to the upper portion of the iPhone's casing to achieve a temperature on the rear glass that is noticeably uncomfortable upon brief contact. The targeted area for heating is the top edge of the iPhone's frame. This temperature indicates sufficient softening of the adhesive securing the rear glass panel, facilitating its removal.
Position a prying tool beneath the uppermost right corner of the device's casing.Carefully move the tool along the top-right contour, extending it approximately halfway along the upper edge. This action initiates separation of the enclosure.
Employ a Y000 screwdriver for the disassembly process. Two screws, each measuring 1.3 millimeters in length, must be removed. These screws are responsible for fastening the front camera assembly cable bracket.Carefully detach the screws using the appropriate screwdriver. The front camera assembly cable bracket is held in place by these fasteners.
To detach the securing bracket for the front camera assembly cable, employ tweezers or your fingertips.
Employ a spudger to detach the camera and sensor cable connectors, lifting them vertically away from their respective receptacles.
